I was reading edbassmaster's last trip out and he mentioned how he when in after his personal best; the DD I caught today I did the same in gator filled water wading out to knee deep water to lip her. I've bailed out of a boat in this same marsh, wading 20 yards just to lip a 7 lber.

Y'all ever bail out to lip a fish?  ;)

yep bailed in from the bank this weekend after my personal best tried to get away before he got measured.  Just over 10#   :)

A  few yrs back, Dirk was fighting a fish that was "better than average", we were thinking 5 ish.  The fish wrapped on a stick in 15 ft of water but we could feel that she was still on the hook.  Out of fear of killing a big fish, I went in and dove down.  She was circle wrapped around the stick and I could not get her untangled.  I cut the line, much to Dirks dismay, but wasn't going to let a fish like that suffer.

To this day, he doesn't know the fish was WELL over 5 lbs.

Dirk, If you're reading, it's time you knew.  Sorry bud.

If all I had to do was get in the water to catch big bass, I would always fish in my swim trunks. ;D

Once fishing our honey hole in south MS my partner hooked a 6+lbr in a brushpile that hung up about 2 1/2 to 3 feet down in the pile. I laid across the bow of the boat and he held my feet as I was down to my waist in the water getting that dang fish. ;D ;D

i almost did last year.it was my first good fish of the year about 4.5 and we went to the shore were the truck was to get the camera.while i waited with the fish i tried to switch hands and it seized the opportunity to wiggle free.in about 5 inches of water i saw the fish try to get away and i had to almost jump out of the boat and get a hold of her.luckely she didnt move much an i got her and the pic

P.S didnt keep the fish out of the water long.while trolling back to the shore we held her just under the surface so she could breath

Easy Solution: Get a Net!!!

I'm getting one tomorrow, past week i've lost too many 5+lb bass trying to lip them.

ive never gone in the water from a boat but have gone in from the shore many times.  one time was similar to what lbh talked about.  i was at a pond and the fish wrapped me up in a bunch of sticks (kinda sparse for me to call it a brushpile).  one of those freak breaks do to some sort of a kink in my line right on top of the reel as i was essentially trying to break the line and start over.  so the line is laying there and i can still feel the fish struggling.  kinda felt bad but this pond was pretty funky.  anyways i go back to fishing but am still feeling bad about it and when i check back it is still there and struggling so in i go, into the filth, and i free the fish, and get my jig back.

the other time was earlier this year at lake orange.  i was walking on top of the dam and i had seen two snakes in the grass and underbrush.  it was like snake heaven and i remember thinking, no way im going down in that crap!  i caught a few small fish and had no trouble swinging them up and they got the ole long toss catch and release method.  then i hook into a pretty good one (actually turned out to be only around 3 lbs) and before i know it im a the shore right in the middle of all this stuff i just had decided im not going anywhere near

Never done it myself but my wife has.

Back before I even knew her, a bunch of mutual friends (thanks for hooking me up with the greatest lady and one of the best fish stories ever!) where fishing a tail race below a dam on a local lake. My buddy hooks into a NICE fish and she jumps in to grab it.

Well that NICE fish was a rather large muskie. Having been from Texas, she had no idea what a muskie was and just wanted to help. She thought noodling was cool! 8-) Well when everyone on shore kept yelling "NO!" "GET OUT OF THERE!" "LEAVE THAT FISH ALONE!" she got out of the water and let my buddy play the fish out.

Being the cocky Texan she is she told my buddy after he caught the muskie "I could of grabbed that and drug it in by it's tail"

To this day when she see's a muskie and I tell her "Hey! Wanna go grab that fish for me?" She tell's me "They could of told me it's like a gar (the muskie) and has teeth like a pit bull" and I always tell her "Yep, and it could grab a hold of you and you would have one less hand!"

Stupid story I guess but it makes me laugh every time I think about it.

Not on purpose....leaned out to retrieve the broken line as my partner was leaning over to see what I was doing.....speed boat wake hit and we both ended up in the drink. :-[
