Iv'e never caught a bass over 1 pound and was just wondering when and if that 3 plus pounder does bite which test line should I use?  I currently have 10 lb. cajun red line.  I'm still a new fisherman that likes to reel'em in as fast as possible even when they fight back and thats a bad habit I got to kick.  The main thing Iv'e been fishing for is crappie because thats all I can catch from the shore.  Hopefully this weekend I can use my boat that I just fixed up, it will be the first time fishing off shore for me.

The thing that really gets the most bites currently are those 1.5 inch neon green hooked grub tail worms (3.50 for the worms and 1 somethin for the light greent jig heads).  I tried using a craw on a weedless jig and have had no luck with that.

10lb is plenty for most situations.  Should handle a 3 lb with no trouble, however make sure your drag has some release just incase that monster bite happens (ya never do know).  As for choice of baits, try a few different size worms in junebug (they work dang near everywhere).  try different weights from none at all to 1/4 oz (this dictates rate of fall)  I feel pretty confident youll see that 3+ in pretty short order!!

Good luck!

Use a buzzbait. Black with a silver spinner. Use at dawn and at dusk. Mostly at dusk. 10lb should be fine. If it breaks get stronger line. And that first fish over a couple lbs will be real fun. good luck

10lb test should be plenty for most situations. An angler at Black Lake, NY in August of 2006 caught a 52" - 46lb Musky on 12lb test he was out of Camp Carol so you can catch a fish that weighs more than your pound test but you must use caution and your drag to wear out the monster. I use 10lb test on my spinning reels I'm first getting acquainted with modern baitcasters but I'm using 12lb dia. 50lb test on it.
