Fish Chris Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I do before every trip. They ususally start with something like, "Lord please let me have a safe, happy trip. No mechanical problems...... and no wind" ! But then they always end with, ".....and please let me catch just ONE big one" ! :-) So here's the funny thing....... On the way home from the lake last Monday, I said, "Lord, thanks SO much for that 12.0..... I mean, it would have been nice to have landed that second big one, but...... Wait a minute ! I did actually pray for "Just one big one" ! And that was exactly what I got ! Doh ! :-)Remember that old saying, "Careful what you ask for, because you just might get it" ? :-) LOL Oh well. It would be pretty hard for me to doubt my blessings, either way :-) Peace, Fish Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted April 27, 2007 Super User Posted April 27, 2007 I go for the reaction strike. The fish gets offended Come on you fat b####, I know you are around here somewhere. Come on out and play. Time for a rubber trout snack. Come on fat a##, you're late for a photo shoot. Come on grandma, dinner bell is a ringin. That last until about 5pm, THEN I start prayin Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 The first guy I ever prayed with outside a church was my fishing partner Ron We would thank God every year with a special prayer we would say6 on the first trip out and close the season the same way. Many , many times prayers were shared in our boat between both those dates. Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Thank you Lord for the beautiful scenery you have created. Thank you for allowing me to enjoy it. Now please bless me, if it is your will, with a big fat hawg. OK, maybe next cast. YOO DA BOSS. OK, how about a fish today? I dont even care if he's big or not anymore. PLEASE don't let me get skunked again. OK, thank you for that one. What a beautiful fish! Once again, thanx for the time alone with you and your creation. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 When the bite is tough, we just break out the old stand by....."Here fishy... fishy.... fishy......" Quote
preach4bass Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 When the bite is tough, we just break out the old stand by....."Here fishy... fishy.... fishy......" "Fishy, fishy, in the brook, won't you get on my hook?" Quote
WBFishing Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I ususally say a prayer. Just a little thanks for getting me up to enjoy nature and something I love to do, hope to have a good day, saftey to all the competitors, and please get me back home to my wife and kids. Quote
abelfisher Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Yes, I do. I say prayers everyday and I dont consider myself a religious person. Just a way I talk to the Man upstairs. But Saturday early morning are a special moment. The prayers are a little more intense. ;D Quote
Dan Pitre Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I do Sometimes, Like Fredo in "The Godfater: Part II" say's, "Every time I put my line in the water I said a Hail Mary, and every time I said a Hail Mary I caught a fish." I find myself doing this and screaming "AMEN!" when I catch one lol. Quote
Super User David P Posted April 27, 2007 Super User Posted April 27, 2007 I do sometimes, but I do pray every d**n time that the weather starts to look bad, or when the weather report for the ONE day off a week I get is bad, I pray and pray all day every day for the weather to be good. In all honesty, the past several times it has worked Quote
jomatty Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 i pray sometimes but it is usually more a thanking for letting me get out and hopes for safety etc. and not so much about catching fish. maybe thats where ive been going wrong. Quote
captaininsaneo Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I would like to be the first to say that I really respect Avid for his response, or even responding at all. It took some beans to just flat out say "nope," and well I dont agree I really respect his honesty in response. Now back to the post, I really like this "fishermans prayer" that I ran across in a book by the famed Uncle Homer: "I pray that I may live to fish, Until my dying day. And when it comes to my last cast, I then most humbly pray: When in the Lord's great landing net And peacefully asleep That in His mercy I be judged Good enough to keep." short, sweet, and to the point. Super User Alpster Posted April 27, 2007 Super User Posted April 27, 2007 Yes I do. I pray over most things. Ronnie Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 I have and will, but not consistantly enough. Quote
gatrboy53 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 i never pray for personal gain,i do pray everyday for help and guidance, wisdom and power and for gods will to be done in my life.when im out on the water or in the woods i thank him for his creation and allowing me to enjoy it.i thank him for the opportunities he allows me to have, especially fishin.i thank him if i catch a fish and i thank him if i dont.matter of fact i cant thank him enough for whats hes done for me.he saved my soul and set my spirit free.oh ,sorry, thats the holiness preacher coming out in me! Troutfisher Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Yes I do. I pray over most things. Ronnie Me too. Quote
Fish Chris Posted April 27, 2007 Author Posted April 27, 2007 Thank you for all the replies :-) Just a couple I have to respond to. Hey Avid, I respect your position, and I NEVER try to force my beliefs onto anybody. One thing I do believe though.... anybody who had had the couple experiences I have had in my life {those which absolutely cannot be explained with science} would have to believe their is more to this life than meets the eye. On the other hand, I'm a "see it to believe it" kind of guy myself, and without those experiences, I'd probably be in the same boat with you Avid. And hey Abelfisher, I could not agree more. I'm totally not into "organized" religion either. I mean, the Bible says..... Yes, well the Koran says.... and Budda says...... Yada, yada..... just too many different religions, with billions of different interpetations, from people who are no more, or no less holy, than I am. What I do believe is that their is a higher power watching over me..... and that life is our proving ground.... and that it will serve me best, to be the best person I can be. Peace, Fish Quote
bighed Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 Yep, usually at the end of the day after reflecting on the beauty of nature and how lucky I was to have been able to enjoy it. Quote
