flyphisher # Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 When asking questions on decent priced gear: Warning!!!!! In a few minutes there will be several posts that will tell you that you wont catch fish unless you save some more money and get a $500 Loomis rod then they will pm you w/ info about a 2nd or 3rd mortage info on your home and selling your children and pets into slavery or to Gypsies depending on going price, so you can afford the $800 reel you will need to catch fish Scariest part is this Loomis/shimano Mafia isnt even sponsored or affliated with the company, once you join there is no getting out. Then comes going without meals to afford lucky craft lures and other japanese lures..... Quote

Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Its real bit of machismo that goes on here You get a tough looking avatar, then you can be a tackle expert and discredit anyone who doesn't use what they use Stay loose its just fishing equipment There are some really knowledgeable people here who just make a suggestion because thats their experience and they let it go others well they are just the others Quote
Super User Catt Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 See even Mooks can get it right Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 Does anyone still use a bamboo cane pole????? Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 To each his own. Don't knock something till you have try it. Man....you really need to relax. You got up in arms about a Kentucky comment, now you cant take a CLEARLY DEFINED JOKE. Deep breaths sir, deep breaths..... If your comment was made in a more light-hearted way, I apologize and encourage the use of ;D or some other variation that lets people know your intentions. Quote

No body got up in arm about anything on this end. I just made a statement and will stand by it. As far as the Clearly Define Joke the comment (to each his own) means he can use what he wants to. Nobody care much less ME. Quote

I make a lot of quick posts when working and often I forget to place the little smileys on them, and I'm sure I've offended a few people. I apologize to anyone that I have offended due to my failure to communicate properly. (No apologies to those I've offended on purpose. ) Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 clearly just some misunderstood posts here. Moving on.... I say "to each his own" also. Use whatever tickles your fancy, just smile when you're doing it. If you feel you have confidence because a rod cost $500,...buy one. If you feel you can still catch with the current $50 combo you have,..keep it. As long as you are fishing, and as long as you are enjoying yourself, who cares what you used to get there. IMO Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 I use the stuff, too..So I can get it, can afford it,etc....Shimano reels anyway,Have daiwas too....Have owned and own custom built Loomis flyrods.... This joke can actually go for any high name tackle..... Cant even make a joke on here without peeing in someones cheerios.....Do I need to quit posting anything???? or do people need to chill out? My avatar is prollie offensive to someone... : Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 I think it's because if you read the original post, it doesn't read like a joke as much as someone just trying to stir the pot, push buttons. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 Fly, I got your humor. I am almost as cheep as they come. I can afford a Loomis but I have never bought one. I have one Shimano, but it is one of the old green ones. I also have one Abu, one Pflueger and several Diawas. I use $33 All-Star Rods and a few more that I built myself. I do see your point and it's a good one for our members who are new to bass fishing. You don't need to by the most expensive or most popular equipment to catch the biggest bass. I wish you could see Randall's Rod a Reel collection. It is comprised of old rods with electrical tape on the butts to hold the balance weights. They are equipped with reels that are so old that all the paint has been worn off and it is down to the plastic body. They still work and as we all know they still catch the biggest bass. I have much respect for my friend Randall for what he has achieved with the low cost equipment that he has. Quote

Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted May 1, 2007 Super User Posted May 1, 2007 I have some very high quility Gloomis stickers for sale you can put on any rod you desire 50 bucks a peice, limited warrenty, : Quote
JayW Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Well, I use Calcutta's and my own custom built rods. I don't think it matters what you use, but it sure can make it more enjoyable with a nice reel and a nice balanced rod. I know of a local guy who caught a 17+ Bass a few years back on a Zebco 33 combo and a wild shiner fishing a private phosphate pit. Anything can work (although I'm surprised the 33 did) ;D Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted May 1, 2007 Posted May 1, 2007 Hey Fly how could a Grateful Dead Avatar with a teddy bear in it offend anyone?? Quote
flyphisher # Posted May 1, 2007 Author Posted May 1, 2007 Muddy, you know what some people think about hippies..... If bass rods do like alot of fly rods, wait a few years and that new technology isnt so new or expensive anymore......Bad thing is the lighter, more advanced, more sensitive rod is also more likely to break. BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted May 2, 2007 BassResource.com Administrator Posted May 2, 2007 I got it was a joke from the first post. Thought it was a fun bit of dry humor. I've discovered myself I can catch just as many dinks with expensive gear as I did with the bargain buys. Quote
Super User Sam Posted May 2, 2007 Super User Posted May 2, 2007 Hey Guys, You know what's interesting about this thread? The fish have no idea of the brand names of any of our equipment. Nor do they know if we are using spinning or baitcasting set-ups; fly fishing; or cane poles. It is so much fun to read comments on this site about specific brands and types of equipment. But that is for us humans. The fish really don't care. And how did you get the teddy bear in the Grateful Dead symbol? Kool. I drove 642 miles today so I am going to bed. You all have fun with this thread. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted May 2, 2007 Super User Posted May 2, 2007 Russ and I were having this conversation the other night. I told him I may not be the guy that wins the tournament, but I will look good coming in last place. ;D ;D Quote
justfishin Posted May 2, 2007 Posted May 2, 2007 I don't care what any of you say, I am going to continue to use my Steetz rods with my Zebco 202 Snoopy reels !!! Quote
