Cajun1977 Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 ive got a club tourney saturday and its supposed to be pouring down all weekend what are some good lure and techniques you use when fishing rain? Quote
Super User T-rig Posted April 17, 2007 Super User Posted April 17, 2007 Burn a spinnerbait just under surface. Quote
jomatty Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 i use the same things i use when its not raining except for the fact that i take into account that the visibility is less due to the cloud cover and sometimes stained water. one thing i always like to try in the rain is a topwater, but that has more to do with the visibility and cloud cover than the rain itself. matt Quote
TNeal Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I like white, triple blade Spinnerbaits in the rain. Speaking from experience....don't let them tie a ribbon to your trolling motor, it seems to repel anything over 4lbs. I can put five or six pounders in the boat everytime I go out and am not in a tournament. Wait....maybe it's the boat chip that's doing it. Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 I love burning a Bandit Footloose just under the surface. Quote
justfishin Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 When it rains a lot of insects and such get knocked into the water and I have always noticed it brings the bait fish such as bluegill, silver shiners, small crappie up to feed. I always like to use the old favorite for this time in which is a Original Rebel Floating Minnow. Works every time. Quote
tbone31 Posted April 19, 2007 Posted April 19, 2007 Tneal I agree with the ribbon thing, happens to me also. As for the question Spinner bait works great just under the surface. If the fishing is slow you can use a c-rig with a couple of beads to get alot of noise. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted April 21, 2007 Super User Posted April 21, 2007 spinnerbaits and topwater for me too. Quote
Lunkers0 Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Darker colored Spinnerbait just under the surface for me. Quote
Troutfisher Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 An umbrella! Ok, ok, leaving now. Seriously though, I agree with topwaters. During the rain, or after the rain, food for minnows has been washed into the water. Minnows come to feed on the food, and bass come to feed on minnows. Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 The first thing I'm going to throw in the rain is a popper and a buzzbait on the wind blown side of the lake. If that doesn't work, then a large, gold, single -Colorado Blade- white and chartruse 3/8oz spinnerbait waked just under the surface. If that fails, then move to a shallow crankbait, like the Mann's Baby 1-. If that fails, Jigs and Carolina Rigs to salvage the day. Quote
deadeye32. Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 O.K. I agree with the spinnerbait and topwater plan, but I'm sure everybody else will be doing the same thing. I would try finding some outflow of water or pipes where the water runs off and fish those spots with a jig or grub of some type. If you can find rip rap around those areas fish just beyond where the water level gets deeper and try it, just an alternative to the usual tactics. Good luck. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 24, 2007 Super User Posted April 24, 2007 Buzzbaits, spooks, frogs, any big topwaters would be good choices. If there's too much chop on the water, a minus-1 run just under the surface is even better. Pay attention to the weather. Lightning will kill you. If it's close, do as the sheepherders do, and get the flock outa there. Cheers, GK Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Yeah watching the weather is important. If your graphite rod starts humming, throw it as far as you can into the lake, fire up the boat, and run. Lightning is about to hit your rod. Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 Yeah, I agree with Ghoti, the Jr. Zara Spook has been a great producer for me in the rain. Quote
Peter E. Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I like to head into the shallows and throw a paca craw with a light weight on the weed edges. Also I will throw it across the weed and use it like a top water. Works great for me. I think the rain washes out the crawfish and the bass will feed on them more heavily. Quote
gatrboy53 Posted April 27, 2007 Posted April 27, 2007 what is rain, havent seen any of that in yrs. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted April 29, 2007 Super User Posted April 29, 2007 Chugbug worked fast to med Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 29, 2007 Super User Posted April 29, 2007 Cajun, you should know all about rain in Louisiana. We grew up with rain. And a few hurricanes, too. You know that when it rains it is one of the best times to fish. I don't know what works well or doesn't work down your way but the guys seem to like topwaters. And so do I. Have any Rico's or Sammy's? What about Spooks? And Chugbugs? And of course, running a spinnerbait under the surface should produce strikes? Is the water temperature ready for buzzbaits? Great lure in the rain. And did you see where Jamarcus got drafter Number 1 by the Raiders. I hope they pay him a lot as the Raiders offensive line plays like Tulane's offensive line. And that's bad. Eat some crawfish for me! Quote
