George Welcome Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Another scammer on the prowl - Franklin Stokes from London: using bogus or stolen credit cards. The cards will be approved and money will hit your bank, but only until Visa finds out: then they want all the money back. Do not fall for this one. Quote
Guest avid Posted April 24, 2007 Posted April 24, 2007 Unlike your other scam alert where there was a particular M.O. for the perp. this is credit card fraud. Unfortunately the person you mention is probably one of about a million or so credit cards being used fraudelently. It's the price we pay for the convenience of plastic. I'm curious George. If you have provided a service and a person pays you with a cc that only later is discovered to be fraud........what is your obligation as the service provider to return the funds? After all you did your job and got paid. Isn't the burden on the cc company to reject the payment as soon as it is submitted? good luck to you George. Quote
KYbass1276 Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 I'm guessing with alot of CC scams happening it's no wonder smaller busieness are not takeing CC anymore. To be honest I have one and as soon as I pay it off its no more for me, I still like the old fashion way of doing business with Cash, No balance No late fee and No Scammers searching for my CC number. George It must be a full time job in of itself just keeping up with whats legit and whats not. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted April 25, 2007 Super User Posted April 25, 2007 Credit cards are becoming more and more the chosen target of scammers - I only use Amex now because of it. They offer great protection. Quote
George Welcome Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 Basically, it's return the money. Small businesses are getting away from accepting CC's because of fees charged. It's costly to accept CC's. Quote

It's costly to accept CC's. So basically you lose out 2 times. You lose what you sold/work and the payment that you should have received. Thats a scam in itself it sounds like. IMO its not your fault and should take the burden. The cc company should claim responsibility. Or would that cut into their 2 billion dollar revenue and put the little guy out of business. :-? Quote
George Welcome Posted April 25, 2007 Author Posted April 25, 2007 Fortunately, I recognized this scam before it happened to me. A company in Canada was not so lucky and according to the phone call I had yesterday there were out $15000. because they bit. Quote
wickyman Posted April 25, 2007 Posted April 25, 2007 It's really sad, when someone has to snoop so low, to basically steal from another person, destroy their credit, or steal from a business owner. It's ridiculous! People like that, really, really have no conscience, and should be persecuted into slavery camps... You can't do the time, don't do the crime! Maybe it would help them gain a little respect for others, and make them grow a conscience! I am one of those people that would take back money, into a store, where I was given the wrong change, (usually too much back) and right what went wrong... I have several times because sometimes numbers are punched, that shouldn't have been, or someone has already had a long/bad/hard day... Stealing is wrong, and it's sad that not more people think about it... Quote
