georgiabassfisherman Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 there is a number of things that could be wrong there may not be very many fish in the pond or the fish could all be small ones and need to be culled try something that looks natural to the fish that they always feed on that seems to always work for me in pond. WELCOME TO THE FORUM GBF Quote
bassinthaNC Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 i know that there are fish in the pond i see them jumping and pretty big ones at that Quote
rocknfish9001 Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 Try senkos (weightless on a 3/0 hook) or fat ikas (same rig) and fish them slowly. I fish a pond that is about 5-7 acres quite regularly. I can usually manage a few fish on many different baits, but if nothing works, this usually does. My best colors are anything that is greenish brownish or whitish silverish. Lots of colors to choose from there. Are you shore or boat fishing? Quote
bassinthaNC Posted April 7, 2007 Author Posted April 7, 2007 im fishing from shore at this point in time i would like to save some money and get a john boat if anyone knos around how much could i find one for? Quote

jomatty Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 a weightless senoko is productive in every pond ive ever fished. matt Quote
Shakes Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Little ponds are the best bass fishing in the country I think. Such a small area you can cover 2 or 3 times before you leave. Try a spinnerbait. My favorite lure to cover water effectively. Stick with it man, and have fun out there. - Aaron Quote
GotOne42 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 tubes, tubes, tubes, tubes, tubes, tubes and more tubes. best bait for bass in a pond Quote
TravisLovett Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Give a soft jerk bait a try. Such as a slug-o, rig it wieghtless jerk it then let it die then jerk it again. The strike will be hard and during the fall. Quote
FatBoy Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Some good advice already. But... How big is the pond? How deep is it? What kind of cover is available? How big were those bass you caught already? Quote
lmb7 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 keep using the mini crankbaits that caught you the other fish Quote
bassinthaNC Posted April 8, 2007 Author Posted April 8, 2007 the ponds is pretty big but some parts r unfishable i dont really know how deep it is and there are trees,weeds/grass, floating weeds thats drift around and the bass i caught were 9-13 inches so pretty small Quote

georgiabassfisherman Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 try frogs all sorts of frogs floating ones swimming ones all kinds even sweet beavers. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 8, 2007 Super User Posted April 8, 2007 First, personal message Extreme1018 as he knows the area and how to fish the ponds. Second, go out and purchase some samll Rooster Tails in off white. Get the ones with the treble hook. Put a small swivel about 10 inches from the Rooster Tail on light line, about 4 to 6 pounds. For some reason, bass, bream and crappie, plus any catfish in the pond, will hit a Rooster Tail. With this set up you can find where the fish are staging or going to bed. Good luck. Quote
pondhopper Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 Ponds are fickel. My best pond is also my worst pond. When it's hot, it's hot; when it's not. it's not. They're in there, man, they're in there! Quote
SouthernJeepn06 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 Went pond fishing yesterday and had good success on weightless white fluke. Had 8 fish in the one area i fished. Nothing to big but they inhaled it. Another thing id recommend would be a topwater such as a super spook jr or a chug bug. I also had luck with a small watermelon seed with red tube with red 2/0 red hook. Good luck in the pond. We're going miss u in SC, lol but i used to live in NC so i cant say anything bad about it Quote
bassinthaNC Posted April 9, 2007 Author Posted April 9, 2007 i miss SC a bit myself but i live at the beach now so hey its good lol Quote
patbfishing123 Posted April 9, 2007 Posted April 9, 2007 If you want bigger fish use bigger baits. If you want a lot of fish use smaller baits. But I would say to stick with the crankbait, maybe even do some jigging with a jig and pig. Try a variation of lures if none of that works to see what works best for you. You can't really go to a pond that you have never fished before and only stick to one lure and hope that you are going to catch many fish. Change it up a little i just told you a couple of the best lures to catch bass in a pond especially a pond with a lot of cover and structure. Other good baits for ponds include: tubes, rubber worms, and spinner baits.... TRY IT ALL! see what works that best. Quote
RockvilleMDAngler Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 You mentioned that much of the lake is "unfishable" well those "unfishable" parts would be the place to start... the more weeds and logs etc. the more bass. Try throwing a fat ika into the densest part of the cover and be very slow with your movements and I guarantee you will get to the bigger fish in that lake. Quote
bassin365 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 My best pond fishing is on frog colored crankbaits and watermelon/black worms Quote
grid Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 My best luck when fishing ponds is using a spinnerbait. I fish one that when they built it they put a 10 ft. walking path next to the edge. But the dummards who built it put the run off pipe 2 ft. above it so the water level is at the pipe. They ledge is a super spot for me to bank fish with a spinner. Quote
