GotOne42 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 hey guys. i just signed up to be a member. im 13 years old and ive been fishing since i was 3, but i have a question. on the day after it rains really hard, what is the best type and color of bait to use???? and how to fish with the bait?? Louis ;D Quote
Guest avid Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 water can be a little muddy after a heavy rain so something noisy might work, but I like to concentrate on what the conditions are today, not what they were yesterday. good luck and have fun Quote
tbone31 Posted April 6, 2007 Posted April 6, 2007 I agree with avid. Fish the conditions for that day. As long as the rain has not brought a cold front through and the water is a little muddy, useually something noisy or with more vibration, chartrusse and white for a spinner bait. Or something a little darker for a jig or a worm like junebug or black and blue. Hope you catch'em!! Quote
GotOne42 Posted April 6, 2007 Author Posted April 6, 2007 yea i agree too. but the conditions today were cold at 30 degrees, a little windy and i little muddy in the water. i tried a mossy green tube and i had only one bite and i fished for 2 hours. so i guess today isnt the right day to fish but i tried a fat rap and it got a 1 pound bass Quote
JayW Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 It all depends. If it's after a cold front... I use a finesse worm and trim it to approx 4 inches and use a 1/0 hook. I use 12# test as an average. I fish it SLOW and do a lot of pausing (I get 50% of the hits when the worm is just sitting there on bottom). I used this combo today after a cold front came through and was still able to catch 16 Bass. It all depends on water conditions and so forth. It's really hard to say. I do know that a finesse worm works wonders on sluggish fish for me. Your results may vary. Quote
ItsaboutTHEbass Posted April 7, 2007 Posted April 7, 2007 i agree with 1jay..slow fishing the finess for them sluggish fish the finess works wonders on any day IMO goodluck Quote
Jeff21 Posted April 8, 2007 Posted April 8, 2007 i agree with avid... i dont like fishing the day after it rains i just like fishing the minute the rain stops...if the water is muddy use a lipless crankbait.....if its sunny out use a lighter color...cloudy turn to darker color , just the same as ever other bait...it also depends on the temperature of the air and the water.if its really warm try a spinnerbait cause most likely the fish arent going to be extremely deep..the vibration from the blades will help the noise for the fish to hear easier.what i do with my 2 baitcasters is put a spinnerbait on one and a lipless crank on the other...give it a try Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted April 10, 2007 Super User Posted April 10, 2007 GotOne, listen to what the fish were telling you. You went two hours with a tube for one bite, then caught a fish on a crank. That's telling you to put something in the water that they can find. It's hard for fish to find a tube in muddy water. You'd have to hit "em in the head with it. The crank makes some noise and puts out vibrations that the fish can track in on. When you catch a fish, ask yourself, what was I doing. How deep, how fast, what kind of retrieve, where in relation to the bottom or cover. When you get bit, that's the fish telling you he liked what you were doing. Analyze, and repeat. Learn something new every time you go out, and soon you'll be better. Do this consistantly, and soon you'll be better than most. Cheers, GK Quote
FatBoy Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 Welcome! Great advice from everyone so far. The one thing I would add is to change baits more often. If you fish a couple of good spots for 30 min or so and you're not getting a bite, it's time to try something different. Sounds like today the key was something with a faster pace and more vibration. You may have had better luck with a spinnerbait, lipless crank, etc. Experiment! Let the fish tell you what they want. Quote
bassmaster8100 Posted April 10, 2007 Posted April 10, 2007 usually the day after it rains it will muddy the water up, i like to try and find some lay downs and brush piles and pitch a blue/black jig Quote
