ohitsdoug Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 All of my life i've been deep sea fishing for striped bass/catfish ect. Or the ordinary bobber, weight, and worm for bass/bluegill/crappie. I'm in Northern California and the weather is almost always nice(except for today lol). And about a week ago i stepped it up and told myself i will only buy "fake bait" which would be lures/jigs/cranks ect. So i did.. I bought some type of yellow spinner bait and a 3.5inch Repala.. Anyways i try this lake around here.. no luck with the spinner bait but i TORE stuff up with the Repala.. I mean.. i don't know about any techniques or anything.. Just casting out and reeling in.. if anything i changed the speeds. Anyways i'm fishing for about 2 hours and catch about 10 bass and missing SO many(Since im new). But i'm HAPPY with what i'm catching.. i havent caught a small bass or anything under 2lbs. I went the day before yesterday and caught the bass below within the first 15 minutes! Anyone have any tips? Or know of a website that has something about every type of lure.. what it's for.. and how to use it? Because i really want to get into this. It's soo fun . Quote

ohitsdoug Posted March 29, 2007 Author Posted March 29, 2007 I'd like to thank everyone for the warming welcome . Man.. So i go up to Calaveras County here in Northern California. And into a town named Burson where my buddie lives. We went down a road trial and happened to find a private lake. It was probably a 2 miles long all the way around it. I couldn't beleive it.. it had a dock.. and a boat launch at one end of it. And it had a little bit of a wake track with those balls all around on the top of the water. We checked it out and noticed the guy had fishing poles in one of his boats. We walked up to his door and knocked.. Someone answers and we ask about the pond. He told us it's private and you cannot tresspass the property. We told him we would pay him 50 bucks just for my and my friend ONLY to fish there and that we only catch and release and take bass fishing just as a fun sport. He agreed and said give me 20 a month if you are going to catch and release.. so we smiled.. Gave him 20 and went down.. It was already getting dark.. but the sun wasnt all the way down. We catch 12 bass in litterally 45 minutes. I couldn't beleive it. We used black and silver broken back Rapalas. All the fish were 3lbs+ biggest weighing up to 6lbs that night. We caught 12.. but lost soo many.. and they are FIGHTERS.. it wasn't like the other public lake i went to. Heres a picture of the "last cast" fish. Haha i love fish. Anyways what i couldn't catch anything on was Jigs.. and Spin baits.. Can anyone tell me why they didn't hit anything else but the fish looking lures? Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Because that's what they wanted, lol. They were probably feeding on baitfish at the time. DON'T GIVE UP ON THE JIG!! Welcome aboard. PS- kissing is one thing,...throwing some tongue in there is just plain questionable, lol. (be careful with that tongue, those sandpaper teeth can still do damage to soft tissue ; ) Quote
ohitsdoug Posted March 31, 2007 Author Posted March 31, 2007 Haha.. my tongue was absolutly not touching the fish sir Quote
Rebbasser Posted March 31, 2007 Posted March 31, 2007 Welcome to the forum! Can anyone tell me why they didn't hit anything else but the fish looking lures? Like LBH said, that's all they wanted! That's the wonderful world of bass fishing, and why so many of us have tons of tackle-we need it to figure out what they are biting on. Sounds like you had a great day and have found a real treasure-a private honey hole. You'll find there will be days when they hit everything you throw and days when you couldn't buy a strike. Guess that's why they call it fishing instead of catching ;D Quote
