Ranger364 Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Have you ever been fishing mindin your own and some young punk wants to start a fight? A couple of weeks ago this happened to me... I was fishing at a local lake First cast of the day boom I catch a 9.0 lb Eye. This Kid walks up (20-25 yrs old ) and claims i was fishing in his hole. Well He starts cussing me up and down and you probably no where it goes from here. What's wrong with this picture? Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Been there done that one. Â Fishing a small lake and pulled in front of a guy approx 200 yds. Â He started yelling and screeming. Â I would have thought he owned the place. Â I pay as much as he does. I got the same right as anyone else. Makes them real mad when you dont even respond or acknowledge that they are there. If you were there first its your spot. Â I can see someone cutting right in front of you say 50yds or less being an issue. Â But if youve been fishing there and acused of someones spot. Â I'd just tell them to get lost. Quote

Shakes Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I'd knock somebody like that DOWN! I couldn't take it... that'd tick me off so bad. Quote
Ranger364 Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Well here's the deal, Public lake, bank fishing (not enough rain yet for boat) There were several people lining the bank I walk 40 + yards down from him well out of cating distance. I catch a fish and the guy goes ballistic. So, being the good Christian I am, said man there's a whole dam to fish get over it. He replys maybe I'll just kick your___! What a baby! Grow up and then we'll talk. I started thinking 40-50 degree water temp maybe this guy wants to go for a swim? Quote
Shakes Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 I think the worst place to fish is a lake so publicly known and fished, that people line the bank with rods. Imagine how much fishing pressure is on that lake. My advice is to find a small pond/lake and fish solo. No more troubles. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted March 27, 2007 Super User Posted March 27, 2007 That there are morons everywhere is an unavoidable fact of life. Walk away. The pleasure obtained by trying to slap the stupid out of an idiot is fleeting at best. And it never works, anyway. At worst, it will land you in jail. Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience. Cheers, GK Quote
Jayson Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Hey ranger, Sorry to hear that you had to deal with that punk >. I would guess he witnessed you pulling out that whopper and he said to himself " I gotta get this guy outa hear since this is the spot" Being me I would of probably hold my ground and tell him to get lost, but I would have to been there or experience that situation. I had a simaliar experience with a boater one year. I was fishing in a area for awhile, catching some good bass. A boater took notice which there was three guys total on board and alittle hammered I might add!!!!they procceded to improach in my area, I thought to myself what the?????? these guys have a boat, and can go anywhere on that lake as they wanted to, but decided to exploit my catching. So I just said Thanks Guys and left. But that whole day I was heated and I ran scenerios in my head of things I could of done. most of all probably getting my butt kicked being the number one!!!! I'm sorry that it happened to you man, what did you do? Nice fish by the way Quote
Ranger364 Posted March 27, 2007 Author Posted March 27, 2007 Amen Brother! The walleye spawn was going and I guess the word got out! Quote
Gotta Love It Posted March 27, 2007 Posted March 27, 2007 Some people just suck! Â Better to walk away than lower yourself to his level! Â I am glad to say that this has never happened to me before. Â I did have a lady threaten to have me arrested for trespassing in her back yard. Â The fishing was on that night so I caught one more fish, showed it to her, said thank you and moved on.... Â Quote

They will drag you down to their level, and beat you with experience. WELL PUT!!! I ,however, am a confrontational person. I probably won't screw you over, but if you screw me...words and baits will probably fly. In my area, by far, people trolling for trout are the worst. They will drive in between you and the point and drag downrigger weights across it! All the while having no clue. It is freaking aggravating. If there are no women or children on board, I usually let them know I'm ticked. Did you know it is really easy to snag someones trolling line? 25lb CXX is alot stronger than trout fisherman's lines, and you can get some nice tackle too Quote
frogtog Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 When they start hollering at me I just go up to them and see what the problem is. My wife said I was like a PITT BULL with no teeth. ;D I allready have to take a pill every day to keep me in tact with the world and I don't mind skipping my pill a day or two. Â Quote
bassnleo Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 You guys should see the circus on Lake Erie tributaries when the steelhead start to run. I've seen more stream side battles over a friggin rainbow than I could watch on pay per view. Fly whippers vs. spinning guys, your casting over my drift wah wah wah. I go just to watch the guys yell at one another! Quote
HPBB Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 People are just ignorant, they see it on TV and they think they own the water and nobody else can use it. Sorry you had to experience it, but I happens all the time. I was fishing a point and there was some brush sitting about 30 feet off the bank. I was sitting about 30-40 feet out from that. So there is about 70 feet between me and the shore. This guy pulls up and starts to fish the point. staying close to the bank, and moves right over the brush I am fishing. I politely said" your boat is sitting right where I am casting" he ignored me. Well, when that 10 inch jointed Swim Wiz, I use for muskie fishing landed just off his bow, he noticed me and left, but he did tell me I was #1. I smiled and said "Thanks, I like being #1" Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted March 28, 2007 Super User Posted March 28, 2007 Wow, I've been lucky I guess. Â I've never had any issues while out fishing. Â Knock on wood..... Quote
RecMar8541 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Funny I should read this today. Night before last, a friend and I went out striper fishing on the st johns river.  We set up under a bridge piling, and were casting against the current and cranking the bait with the current next to the piling.  Sure as hell here comes a speck fisherman, and pulls his boat up to the row of pilings not 20 feet from us!!!  I said "hey bud, thats right where we are casting."  He replies"Oh hey Im sorry, I thought you guys were speck fishing right over the side, Ill move."  Very nice guy named Gary.  He Pulls his boat around to the other side of ours, and out of the kill zone, next to another spec fisherman named Ralph.  Well ralph tells him to tell us to  f off we dont own the river.  blah blah blah blah.  to prove his point he pulls his 80 year old butt right where gary had been fishing, right on top of where we were casting lol.  The sad part is he did it just for spite.  He had actually been catching nice 2 lb specs where he had been before he moved, he and gary were slaying them.  But he had to "show us".  The rest of the night the old man, who sat his dumb butt on out spot only caught 2 specs, gary on the other hand absolutly killed them!!  The nice guy who moved for us was on the fish, and we whooped and hollered with everyone he caught!!! We caught stripers anyhow, even shared a few with gary, and gary caught himself a boat fulla nice spec.  The cantankerous old man just sat stewing LOL. Quote
Troutfisher Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Heh, I like it in spring when warm weather fisherman come out with their live bait and worms and fish at a local small pond. Â Although I fish with live bait and worms, once post spawn comes, I'm all about artificials. Â Well, out of this entire pond, I usually will be fishing pretty far away from the warm weather fisherman. Â However, when I catch a bass, either these guys a) cast directly to the spot where I caught the fish, or move their items within 10 ft of the spot I caught the fish. ;D Quote

Super User cart7t Posted March 28, 2007 Super User Posted March 28, 2007 Nothing I like better than falling in behind someone, fishing "their" used water and pulling a couple nice fish while they've blanked. Â While I'm reeling the fish in, I keep one eye on them, they're usually talking and watchin and trying to figure out what they did wrong. Â ;D Quote
flyphisher # Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 I thought i had seen it all, until the end of last summer. I was fishing a large pond(15 acres and wide) from a boat. Across the lake I noticed 15 bank-fishermen whom I knew were trespassing . I caught 2 or 3 fish right off the bad and released them. I heard some of the people grumbling. Then I hooked up with a 3 or 4 lber and the loudest of the group gets louder. Then I released the fish and he went "NUTS". Started cussing at me from across the lake because I didnt bring him the fish. Quote
Skidder Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 Turn the other cheek...Take the high road...Avoid confrontation. NO WAY! If somebody calls me out, does something directly to me, or flaps their ball washers towards me, They are gonna get a face full of 6' 4" 230 lbs of bad attitude! > I am not here to give anyone a hard time and don't go around giving people $hi!. I am NOT going to take it either, I'm not in the $hi! business. You should have at least went to the punk and pointed out that his outburst was not going to be tolerated. What would have happened 20 years ago if he did that. He would have got his Azz kicked thats what! There is a reason people act like idiots, because they haven't got punched in the head! I also like nothing more than being cut off in a tournament. > Instead of getting ticked and moving I put my head down and fish harder. I usually continue to catch fish and when I do I hold them up and holler to the boat that cut me off, "Hey you missed one"! That usually does the trick. I will find them at the weigh in and louder than needed, so other anglers can hear you, say that I caught fish behind them after they cut me off. Usually that takes care of it! Quote
Avalonjohn44 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 The cool thing about living in VA is you can legally carry your firearm on your hip. Â After about a half dozen only little run-ins (mostly with illegal immigrants that siene-net every single fish out of an area), I was cornered by six non english speaking thugs that grabbed at my rod tip, tossed rocks near me, and kept shouting something and laughing like loons. Â I was pretty far from the main road in, and luckily game warden came by and the idiots calmed down. Â I followed the warden out of there. Â I started carrying my gun with me since then, have had nothing but peace and quiet since... Far worse, in my opinion, than ill mannered fishermen, are professional crabbers on the Chesapeake and Delaware bays. Â I crab as often as possible, and not being a commercial crabber, I anchor and just pull traps all day instead of running a line of traps. Â A few times I was out there real early, in a rental boat, and have been run off by some very aggressive commercial crabbers. Â They get real close to my boat, make a crazy wake, holler, throw bait at my boat, etc. Â One guy harassed me for about an hour or so laying traps all around my boat, gunning his engines, cursing, etc. Â I ended up cutting about a half dozen of his traps loose after he was out of sight and hightailing it out of there.. BucketmouthAngler13 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 LOL this thread sounds like me and my buddies bank fishing. If you get a hit, never say so. Becasue If you do there will be 5 other lures casted from all over the pond to that exact spot before you can even reel your lure in. : Quote

extreme1018 Posted March 28, 2007 Posted March 28, 2007 my uncle ricky and i were on high rock lake in north carolina when a boat came and parked within casting distance uf us. we had already cought a couple nice ones when he showed up. then i heard those fomous words we have all come to know over the years. "HEY, WATCH THIS" loud enough for the guy to hear.he proceeded to tie on one of those dollar plugs you get form the big bin at the tackle shop. and his plan was to cast it right on the deck of the boat, except he missed ansd just hit the side of the boat instead. the really wild part is that he actually cought a fish and it happened to be the biggest one we cought all day. after he landed the fish he told him that we already cought all the fish in this hole and that we were goin to another hole and get thme to.. he did not look happy Quote
