Buzzbaitfool good responce. Except there not force fed. They stock the trout for the "trout fisherman" not the bass. The bass only get to eat them for 1/4 of the year.

Another thing to consider is that as far as I know, neither Mac nor Jed have actualy submitted thier aplications yet. First they will have to do this and second the IGFA will have to except one or both or rejct them both.

Ok now let me give you guys a little history on the World Record club.

The WWC was formed buy two guys who started a club and payed out prizes for the biggest bass caught. You had to be a member to qualify. If I remember it cost $25 per year to join. It grew quickly. They had an insurance policy to back the grand prize for catching the WR. I believe it was Lloyds of London. By the Time Jed Caught his fish the Club had thousands of members and the grand prize had increased tp aprox. 7 Million. L of L would not renew the insurance policy after Jed caught that fish. It scared them. The WWC went under the next year. In its breaf history it payed out $25000 each year for the largest bass caught in the world. I believe this went on for 5 or 6 years. Mike Long won the prize every year except the year Jed caught his.

Pretty impesive Huh? This is where most of the rumors of the WW being worth millions come from, but it no longer exists

Thanks for clearing that up Matt. :)

I guess I shouldnt have said force feed, im sure they like it..but it is kind of like using hgh and not using..of course the fish will be bigger stronger and more agile with all the protein they are ingesting..I for one once again would like for trout to be feed to the fish here in georgia..Lets put everyone on a level playing field..

I see nothing wrong with taking measurements or pictures of any fish.    The intent of the individual is strictly for memories and maybe his bass log.    But, when an individual puts a bass into a livewell or places the bass onto a rope (stringer), that clearly shows to be a violation of Cali. Fish and Game laws due to the "being hooked outside the mouth" as per their laws.

Whether he got a ticket or didn't doesn't make it justifiable.     The IGFA states all state laws must be observed at all times, thus making the catch illegal as per Cali laws.

In 2003 Jed caught that same bass and weighed her on a certified scale in front of witnesses. They measured her and took pictures. SHE WEIGHED 22lbs 9ounces!!!!!!!!!! While waiting for the fish and game to show up the fish lost eggs and weight. By the time they showed up they reweighed her for the World record bass club and she only weighed 21 lbs 11oz.

Forget about stocking trout in GA waters. I'm all for giving the bass here steroids. I see a 50 lb'er in the near future ;D

Hi guys,

There's been several threads/debates on this subject within the recent past here.  Just do a search for "George Perry" or "record bass" and you'll find all sorts of viewpoints.  Might be worth taking a look, rather than regurgitating what's already been said before.  Might also spark a few new ideas/thoughts that would be worth discussing here.

Everyone keeps going back and forth on this foul hook issue and the CA law. I dont know if the law your looking at is misrepresented or misread. First off they are refering to foul hooking as snagging the fish in an unsportsman like manner (intentionally snagging the fish with the hooks). Almost every state AND tournament organization has this rule. I have watched Ish, Ike, KVD, Dance, and all the greats unhook foul hooked fish and throw them in the live well. Because they had no control over that fish getting foul hooked on a blind cast. If you were to throw a cast net and come up with a bass in it..you must immediately release the fish (the same rules of catching the fish in a sporting manner apply here). I know they were sight fishing but how the fish was foul hooked was conducive to the fish swatting at the lure.

How many polygraphs do you think they will be taking after they send in the application? I have many friends who have submitted some serious saltwater records. The amount of polygraph testing they went through was crazy! So if he fould hooked that fish on purpose they will find out.

I cant wait for the record to come out of Florida...since its our strain of Bass anyway!   ;)

Polygraphing to verify fish???? What is this world coming to???? :-/

Too many cheaters out there. Polygraph testing is very common amongst the tournament scenes as well.

Would you cheat at catching a fish to cash in 7 million dollars? Its easy to say hell no until youre staring down at the fish that would make it all happen. (that was by no means implying thats what those CA guys did).

I did not know that the Jed Dickerson bass was a WR on a certified scale with witnesses.

I don't understand why that would not qualify it.  I mean if you put a fish in a tank and weigh it everday It's going to weigh less each time. right?

As far as the weakly bass, I say NO WAY>  You don't certify a scale AFTER the fact - that's absurd.  Too much opportunity to tamper with the scale.

The foul hooking issue is a state law issue.  If it was caught in a way that made it illegal under Califorina law then the IGFA has no right to even consider it.

I'll bet thre is has been an awful lot of behind the scenes stuff going on here.  What equipment was Weakley using?  Everything from the line, hook, tube, rod reel etc. would have an enourmous financial interest in seeing this fish get certified.

Money talks.

sure Jed's fish happened awhile ago and is probably old news to most of you, but I'd think more of you guys would be standing up for this guy considering he was misled into thinking he didn't have a chance...I mean chances are the fish that would beat Perry's record would be caught during the spawn... did the rulemakers not think the fish would lose fluids/eggs over the course of waiting for the DFG in ANY case? sorry if I'm reitterating here

A good friend of mine growing up went on a fishing trip to the Potholes Reservoir in Washington around the early 90's and stuck a 11# 13 ounce after loading the boat on the trailer! The state record is/was 11.3.  He couldn't officially weigh it cause it was a sunday and no one was returning calls. 45 minutes later the fish started to drop considerable weight and he had to work the next day and still had a 5 hour drive. He decided to keep it on ice and when he got home it was 11.1 or 11.2 on the same scale which he later checked out to be true but not "certified". He kept it for a mount and nothing was made of the situation..its now on his wall with a frown  :D how many cases are there like this one must wonder? certified starts to take on new meaning..more like de-certified

Sometimes politics are too much of a headache when eye witness' have nothing to gain. Considering the fish didn't drop 5# when the DFG got there I think its fair to give someone the benefit of the doubt in this scenario especially since him and his crew have been so persistant! how about releasing the facts and voting on it  :)

is there a show of hands here?

Maybe the issue with Jed's fish could be used to the Cali Fishermen advantage.  A chance to start lobbying for a bass supported fishery along with the other programs in place.

I don't know when the certified scale showed up at Lake Dixon, but less than a mile from where Mac caught his fish is a certified scale at the park bait house.      These so called passionate WR seekers don't seem to use tools that are already in place.     By the way, every lake that I fished in the San Diego area had scales in the 80's, so I don't think Dixon is any different.     Neither Jed or Mac used the tools in place or seemed to be prepared.

If there is so much money on the line with tackle sponsors and potential World Record Bass swimming around, why wouldn't you pressure the State to enact better programs to support you.

Its your nickle that pays the bills!!!!!!!!

Matt Fly, welcome back.

It is my understanding that Jed did weigh his fish both times on the lakes certified scale.

In 2003 Jed caught that same bass and weighed her on a certified scale in front of witnesses.

Mac's fish was not.

Must be some Lazy law enforcement in California.

Sorry dude. Joking or not, that is totally uncalled for. We have some of the best law enforcement in the WORLD. There is no reason to insult them by saying they are lazy. Far from it.

I apologize for getting off topic.

I do like the Idea of the polygraph test. I imagine that if the IGFA is to the point that they are considering granting either of these possible records than they would test them. I for one believe they knew that fish was the WR and did not purposly foul hook the fish. I personaly dont think Mac should get the record because of the foul hook AND ONLY BECAUSE OF THE FOUL HOOK!!!! (saying that he kept the fish too long and that is illegal is rediculous and petty.) However If the IGFA decides they are ok with the foul hooking than they realy should polygraph Mac. If for no other reason it might quite down the haters a litte.

Okay, I hear you Matt. Here's a thought though, guys in thier shoes can too easily have a scale certified by the Dept. of Weights and Measures, right there with them in their tackle bag. I do. And I'll tell you one thing, if I ever caught a WRB, I'd get every possible witness in the area right there, right now, to witness the weighing on my certified scale. And I don't care if it did, or didn't spit anything up. I'd only weigh it one darn time ! Unless it was like 1 ounce shy...... then I might weigh it like 19 more times ;-) Just kidding.

Anyway, those guys seem like good guys. And that fish has grown to be an honest 25 lbs !

Peace,

Fish

I know it sounds like I am routing for them but I am not. I only defend them when people accuse them of things that they have no idea of what actualy happened. I personaly dont know them. Truth is, the one time I actualy talked to them, I was not happy with them because they had 3 boats and worked together to limit my shoreline. Once the whole lake was covered they backed off but I was not happy with their actions. I dont dislike them though either. I do feel bad for Mac, I couldnt even imagine the feeling he must have had when he first seen the jig in the side of the fish. I would have thrown up.
