BigAL Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Hello first post been absent from fishing for about 4 years woke up this morning and ended up at Bass Pro Shops!Shopping for the lures was no problem I have fished all my life so I know what works!Problem was all the new reels I didnt know what to get I knew daiwai, shimano and Abu Garcia were all high quality reels but i was just looking for something to use around local canals so I was talking to the salesman at BPS and he sold me on Bass Pro Shops Bionic Plus combo $119!!!!!! It has 6 ball bearings, anti back lash and feels like it has anti reverse also very comfortable to fish with. Now the good stuff I just took it out to try it not really fish but about a 1/2 hr into fishing I got a 4lb mud fish reel and rod handled it no problem they are not much of a fighter, than about another 1/2 hr later landed a 5lb bass and rod and reel handle with no problem at all.Iam very impressed how far reels have come in just 4 years!See how long it holds up.... Just wanted to share and intoduce myself look forward to chatting with you guys and gals!Happy fishing!BiG AL Here is a link of the combo if interested. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=90678&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=3&hvarSubCode=1&hvarTarget=browse Quote

Bladesmith, Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Welcome Big Al; Sounds to me like a pretty good come-back with a 5 lb. bass in your first hour of fishing. I understand what you mean about all the new reels available. I upgraded some of my equipment after years of using the same old equipment, which I bought back in the 70's ( if you buy good equipment and take care of it, you don't have to replace it ). The new stuff is surprising in it's variety and versatility, and there is a much greater range of gear ratios available, than there was before. I hope the good luck of your first day back stays with you all season. Quote
RiskKid. Posted February 20, 2007 Posted February 20, 2007 Welcome aboard and enjoy the new gear......Nice start....keep reelin in those biggies! Quote
