Super User burleytog Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 It's 20* outside, the wind is howling and I was just on my porch casting. Spring can't come soon enough. Quote
eastkybass Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I know what you mean. I was standing outside of work the other morning waiting for the snow to melt and was practicing flippin and pitchin. ;D Quote
CrazedL.IFisherman Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Haha im right there with ya guys, i purchase a ton of lures during the off season and keep my mind on the up coming season, i love adding the new lures to the proper places just to get to look at all the lures i already have Quote
Deuceu72 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I practice pitchin & flippin all winter in my house.....I set up coffee mugs all over the house and those are my "holes". ;D ;D ;D Quote
logger Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I hear ya. Bring on the warm weather and open water. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I've been tinkering in the workshop too. Last weekend I built about 100 jigs for this year, monday I build about 12 spinnerbaits. Other things I have been doing is pouring plastics and making molds for them. I've got all kinds of little projects keeping me busy. Quote
foul hooked Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 What type of plastics you tinkering with GMAN ? Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 It's 20* outside, the wind is howling and I was just on my porch casting. Spring can't come soon enough. Move SOUTH ! Down here in paradise the temps are in the 70 's, sunny clear cloudless skies. Too bad I have a business to take care of ........ wish I was a student like back in the 80 's. :'( Quote
MBeery Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Raul I hear ya, out here in AZ it is in the 70's, the bass will be spawning in a couple weeks and they are hitting hard. On the flip side, in a few months it will be like fishing a lake on the sun. Quote
Super User Raul Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 The fish are already in prespawn mood, went this Sunday and we were doing fine until the danged wind kicked us out of the lake at about 2 PM. > Quote
Triton21 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Raul, MBeery, you're killing me. 17 degrees and hard water here in IL. Kelley Quote
bocabasser Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 it is a very warm 79 here in deerfield beach. but a cold front is coming, bringing the temps to a FREEZING upper 40's (low) and a cold 60's (high). i will think of you guys this afternoon when i go surfing in nothing but my trunks. Quote
ring fry Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 I just went home for lunch and I noticed the strip pit I live on had some open water in front of my dock. Grabbed a rod with a jig n pig and walked down to the deck to make a cast. d**n near fell on by butt walking down the steps with ice still on them :-[ Quote
flippinout Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 Yeah....it's not much fun here in Kentucky right now either. I haven't been fishing since mid September...first because of my little trip to Iraq and now because it so dang cold outside. GMan...Do you sell the baits that you make? Do you have a web site of a catalogue? Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 14, 2007 Super User Posted February 14, 2007 You warm weather guys are killing me. The ice in my canal is 12" thick, there is 12" of snow on the ground, it's 18 degrees and the wind is blowing NNW at 25 MPH. Sorry, back to the topic. I've cleaned, lubed, and re-spooled all my reels (some twice). Organized all my tackle and then I re-organized. I hesitate to admit that I tied one of my dog's toys on my line and tossed it down the hall so he would grab it and I could feel the tug on my line...........is that crazy? IS IT SPRING YET? Falcon Quote

Falcon Depends on how big the dog is. ;D Quote
basspro48 Posted February 14, 2007 Posted February 14, 2007 It aint quite hard water here in Virginia but its about as close as you can get. The last 3 or 4 weeks its been in the lower 30's, at one point it was down to 8 degrees, so I haven't hauled any bass in a good while. But I have been keepin busy by tying up new flies, making a couple jigs, casting off my deck, and I even designed a few new baits that IMO are absolutely awesome 8-). Maltese, I did a little dog fishin too. I got about 12 feet of 60lb braided line, tied it to a little cane pole, tied a beggin strip to the line, and annoyed the crap out of my dog. Quote
timmyswetarded Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 today it got down to 4 degrees, and the water has been solid for 3-4weeks now. Quote
mdangler Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 The fish are already in prespawn mood, went this Sunday and we were doing fine until the danged wind kicked us out of the lake at about 2 PM. > come on now don't rub it in. U are not alone brother. All my lakes are frozen two inches. No ice fishin no bassin. But if u look on the brightside BPS spring fever and ice out are just around the corner. Quote
Bladesmith, Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I agree with you guys; Spring can't come soon enough. Our lake has been frozen solid since late Nov. or early Dec. It's been so long I can't remember which. At least I can catch a few trout on the river, once in a while. Steelhead should start running late next month. All my reels have been cleaned, my tacklebox is in better order than its ever been. My poor boat is still under 2 ft. of snow. Guess I'll have to put up with cabin fever for a while longer. Quote
fishbear Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 Our jon boat tourney season started last weekend,,, rough weather, yep... temps anywhere from the 30s to the 60s one day to the next,,, but we are fishing... but as our Ex(thank God) President was fond of saying,,"I feel your pain" Quote
Valascus Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 I have been so pre-occupied with work and family through out the week I don't really even have time to think about fishing. But when the weekends hit, the fever that I am repressing comes back in full force and I find myself reorganizing my tackle over...and over...and over again. It's supposed to get down to 2 tonight...2. FREAKIN' 2!!!! Cold...God, I hate winter time. :'( The lakes and ponds have been frozen over here for a while now. There are parts of them that may not be hard, but most of 'em are out of casting range. But for the most part all of 'em are iced over. Quote
llPa1nll Posted February 15, 2007 Posted February 15, 2007 From Hill on Hawthorne, Windham, New Hampshire (10:13a Feb 15 07) temp(16.1 F / -8.8 C, feels like 6 F / -14 C) cond(Clear) wind(WNW at 7.0 mph / 11.3 km/h) hu(60%) dewpnt(5 F / -15 C) Today: Mostly sunny. Windy with areas of blowing and drifting snow. Highs in the lower 20s. West winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Wind chill values as low as 8 below. Lakes up here have been solid since the new year I was able to sneak out on Jan 7th with me breaking through Ice, but now its been weeks since the Temp has been over 32°F. The Ice Id guess would be at +12in. Thankfully Im heading to South Carolina to squeeze in some fishing in 2 weeks. Then hopefully its just another month till its Ice out time. I feel though that its gonna be a late start to things maybe mid April??? Quote
