I was in the local Wally World today and they are completely changing the outdoor dept.  Everything is being rearranged.  The department according to the associate is going to be LARGER.  The were just beginning to put out to new stock and in fact Swimming Senko's and horney toads were among the new items I saw.

So maybe all this "rumour" is just that and nothing more.  The Wal mart in my neighborhood appears better than ever.

Good. I think they needed a huge improvement.  As much as I go to Walmart for dog food and body products, it would be nice to make a trip to the fishing department and actually find something useful.

my wal-mart has added some things to their department, as well.  I dunno about you guys, but my Wal-Mart is also going into remodeling/re-arranging and making some departments bigger and taking some others out.

I think they are adding to our walmart too! They are also putting alot of stuff on clearence. FLW jigs for 75 cents and Hair Jigs for 50 cents. Fenwick Venture Rods for $19, and a bunch of other plastics and line for REAL cheap.

The Wall-mart close to me has a ton of rods on sale.  I got a 6'6" medeim action Shakespeare Durango for $7 today.  :)

Walmart expanding their fishing section would make more sense than them getting rid of it.

I haven't heard of any wal=mart stopping the sale of fishin' stuff, but I have heard that any new wal-mart being built from here out won't sell firearms. Also the existing wal=marts will go to selling just rimfire and shotgun shells. My nearest wal-mart is revamping the fishin' section as well too.Lots of new lures plus rods and reels and combos.

I never liked to buy a gun there anyhow.

The Wally World nearest me, has just started selling chatterbaits. So I'd say mine is just a little behind the times! LOL! If they do start to ramp up, my guess is the store I shop at will be much later this year.   :(

It seems like I remember seeing all the gun cases and stuff empty the last time I visited the sporting goods section here, too.  There used to be two turnstyles with shotguns and rifles but I don't remember seeing those.

Also, my wal-mart just got the chatterbaits, too.  They also got booyah boogie blades, eakins jewel jigs, a lot of new spinnerbaits, more X-rap colors, more DT's, a lot of manns soft plastics...haven't looked at anything else yet...oh yeah, they have the lake fork swimbaits that I bought now, too.

Yea I just got back from Wal-Mart, and they were rearranging a lot of things.  I didn't see the reel and gun counter.  They must have been getting rid of a lot of stuff to make room for new things.  I found a lot of good deals though.  I picked up some Zoom Flukes, Zoom Baby Brush Hogs, 2 Hart Buzzbaits, some FLW Trailers, a Mann's Super Frog, and a Spro Dawg 100 all for 11 bucks. They also had P-Line for 7 bucks, but didn't grab any of that.

I am a former Wal-mart employee and my wife still works there as second job. It is true all the stores that are going through remodel are going to stop selling fire arms. We have two stores here in Wilmington, NC; the older store went trough a remodel last year. They installed these nice gun racks then corporate decided not to sell firearms. Only bb and pellet guns. Now these cabinets are used to dislpay Penn reels and Paint Ball accessories, what a waste of money.

20 years ago, when I first came to the area I now reside in, Wallyworld's fishing dept was at least 3 times the size it is now.  Oh yeah, they have a few Chatterbaits and some spinnerbaits.....Zoom plastics and not a whole lot else.  I've been over there looking to find some of the great closeout prices that people are talking about here, but it just ain't happening.  Maybe later......

i think it is safe to say that depending upon the region you live, the fishing department at wally world will be different. for example: the walmarts by my house (all 3 of them) have been selling horny toads for over a year. in the next county, they never have carried them and i doubt they will. i am just stoked that i can get 150 yards of power pro for $11.74. try getting it at that price at basspro.

The Wal-Mart here just recently clearenced and got rid of all the higher priced reels(the good ones) they had in stock. They have yet to replace or restock anything in the department. This is a fairly new store. I believe the store opened around the year 2000.

I just talked to the sports dept manager at the local Wal-Mart. He said not all stores will stop selling firearms, this one will continue to do so. Just the ones that don't have very many sales of firearms, especially in the Northeast will discontinue. He used the number 700, but I don't remember if that is the number of stores that will continue or if that's the number that will stop.
