I use mainly finesse techniques for these guys such as hair jigs, finesse rigs, and jigging spoons. I just wanted everyone input on there spotted bass encounters and maybe some cool techniques and links for me . Also your personal best spot, mine is 4lbs 3oz. Quote

Chris Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I catch them a lot on tubes, crankbaits, dropshot, and jigs. Most of the spots in my area are in the creeks and rivers. I caught one in a lake that I think was a mix that was about 4 lbs on a tube jig. Quote
clipper Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I fish Allatoona which is a different lake than Carters (where I assume you fish) but I use finesse worms on jigheads, Mini-Me spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, drop shot with finesse worm, crankbaits, and topwater lures. I try to keep my baits small most of the time as I like to catch numbers of fish. Triton Mike Bucca has written some great articles on fishing for spotted bass. Some of them may even be posted here or you can look up his website. I've probably caught ten times more spots on a slider head and 4" worm than any other bait I have used. Good luck on that deep, clear lake that has a reputation for putting the skunk on first timers. Quote

I live on Carters and fish it regularly, rarely do I get the skunk but it does happen every blue moon or so haha. How is Allatoona? PM me about it, im planning on going there soon maybe. Quote
Craw Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 I love spots! My home lake is absolutely full of them, and one river in particular that I fish pretty regular is also loaded with spots. I don't know how big my largest spot would go, but I've caught some toads. During warmer months I catch a great number on the pig-n-jig, as well as a variety of other baits. During winter, the jigging spoon has accounted for many a spot. One thing I'd like to add about fishing for them is this...Take advantage of this fish's' curious nature. They react to many colors and presentations that would seem odd to use. They swat at baits out of pure playfulness at times. At least, this has been my experience. I call it the curiosity factor. One example-bright colors in calm, clear water sometimes get them to hit when it seems that they have all but shut down. An orange spinnerbait w/matching orange blades or a bright yellow tube. Baits like these can spark interest from these fish and get you strikes when it gets tough. Quote

Even though he is using the ancient Chinese method of Holdthefishout, you can still tell that is a larger than average spot. My largest, and only, spot came out of Tablerock back in October off of a 1/4oz. PB&J Eakins Spider Jig with a Cinnamon Purple Eakins Pro Model Craw Trailer. I was pitching it into some standing timber that was leaning up against some bluffs that dropped off like stairs in about 5 ft. increments. He went 2 lb 1oz. and fought his little heart out. I was targeting smallmouth at the time since I have never caught one, but he was a welcome fight. Only fish I caught that day... Quote

senko_77 Posted January 24, 2007 Posted January 24, 2007 I dont get to fish for spots often, but when I do its at Lake Lanier. Everyone knows that Lanier means magnum spots. My favorite way to fish for them is topwater or shakey heads. My PB spot is 5lbs even and it was caught on a sammy 100 in american shad on a point in around 45ft of water. I love it when those spots gang up on the baitfish and just demolish them on the surface. Its BEAutiful Quote

northgabassfisher Posted January 27, 2007 Posted January 27, 2007 i fish lake lanier which is the best spotted bass lake in the nation lol. but i love catching them on dropshot, jigs, topwater, and spotstickers. and pb in 5.9lbs caught on a spotsticker, then a 5.2lbs spot in my pic on my profile caught on a chugbug in about 30ft of water ey btw I am offended. We have a smallmouth board but not a SPOTTED BASS Board?? Who is the board nazi here??? yea whats up with that > Quote
