Lucky Craft Man Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I have been watching "The Bass Pros" tv show on Versus (Great show by the way) and is it just me or does Stacey King get overly excited at every fish he catches? He seems like a nice guy, but everytime he catches a fish he creams his shorts. It could be a 2 pounder an he is excited like he just hooked his first bass. What I also found interesting was in last weeks show Stacey caught an 11+ pound bass. He said that was the largest bass he had every caught. Now I have never caught a 10+ lb. bass myself, but I would assume for these pros who fish all the time and fish some of the best waters in the world would have a personal best higher then 11 lbs. Maybe I am just being hard on the guy, but I was still a little surprised by that. Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted January 22, 2007 Super User Posted January 22, 2007 you're being hard on the guy.tournament fishermen don't trophy fish so an 11 pound bass is great. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Kinda hard. I get excited with every fish as well. The day I don't, I'll retire. It's just different for some than others, people take different things from a fishing experience. As for the big fish, you need to realize that tourny anglers main goal is 5 fish. Secondary goal is 5 big fish. We come to places like this board with some of the very best recreational anglers in the country sharing their experiences and we can tend to not give due props to the 10+ lb fish because we see and hear about them alot more often than the general fishing public. We have Cali cow hunters, the Varner group, etc who constantly report with fish that are truly once in a lifetime fish for the other 98% of the population, including pro's. Now if Stacey King only fished Varner or only threw Huddlestons in Northern California, he very well could have a list of 10lb + fish. He's certyainly got the drive, passion and skill, but his goal isn't to beat his PB each time out there, it's to catch an amount of fish that will keep him in the standings. Different strokes for different folks. JMO Quote
squid Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I get excited on EVERY bass I catch too. IKE is worse than King....lol Quote
BD Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Nothing more to add, other than yes, Bass Pros show is a great show. Quote
Nick B Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 I get excited over bass too, thats why I love this sport. Quote
Hawgin Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the single biggest fish record get broken last year on the elite series? Something around 11 pounds? I know in the Classic Rick Clunn broke the record with a 10+, and then Preston Clark beat that during the same weigh in? I could be wrong about this, but if not it is easy to understand that many bass pro probably are still chasing their double digit best, just like us. Also, isn't Stacey King from Missouri. If so he doesn't get a change to trophy chase around here, believe me, I know this. Quote
Pa Angler Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 How can you not get excited. Some days your lucky to get one fish Shaw Grigsby ZEROED in the Legends tournament the last day and blew a 3lb lead. When you don't get excited about catching a fish it's time to hang up your fishing gear. Chow Quote
mdangler Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 The day I stop getting excited over a fish i am gonna shoot myself in the head. Quote
Minuteman Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Stacey King seems "laid back" compared to Shaw Grigsby. He gets so excited his voice jumps about 5 octaves when he catches some fish. I think it was the sight fishing episode last year that his voice got so high, I thought my TV screen might crack. Also, he caught his PB Smallmouth this season on TV and I think it was 5Lbs 14oz. I also was surprised about that and the Stacey King PB, but the tournament explanation sure makes sense about why many of them don't have monster personal bests. Quote
Super User Catt Posted January 23, 2007 Super User Posted January 23, 2007 The day I don't get excited over every bass I'll take up golf 8-) Quote
Gorgebassman Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 The day I dont get excited about catching a fish is the day I stop fishing and thats not gonna happen anytime soon. Stacy King is pretty layed back compared to some of the pros and TV personalities out there. Quote
Rattlinrogue Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 Roland Martin,Ike,Shaw Grigsby also get a mite excited whenever they catch a bass.Everything Martin hooks is"Big fish, big fish, monster fish".And that's the way many(including me)feel.Every time I hook a bass you'd think I'd caught the winning bass in the Classic. Many don't show that excitement, but I'm sure that most who are as obsessed with it as we are, feel that way inside.
