eastkybass Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 All spots have a patch of rough skin on there tongues and the jaw line doesn't extend back behind the eye. Also I think there is some difference in the coloration pattern but I can't remember right now Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 22, 2007 Super User Posted January 22, 2007 http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/species.html Spotted Bass Description: Upper jaw not past rear of eye. Tooth patch on tongue. Spiny & soft dorsal fin clearly connected Largemouth Bass Description: Upper jaw extends beyond the eye. Tongue normally smooth, tooth patch rare. Spiny & soft dorsal fin separate or nearly so. Quote
Bass Hammer Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 Spots have some fantastic coloring. They get more agressive as the temp. drops. They tend to school more than LMB. They relate to structure more than cover. Quote
KenDammit28 Posted January 22, 2007 Posted January 22, 2007 spots can also get a reddish colored eye. The best thing to look for is the jawline and the dorsal fin. If the jaw doesn't give it away, just look at the dorsal and if there isn't a noticable gap, its a spot. Quote
hi_steel_basser Posted January 23, 2007 Posted January 23, 2007 One more thing... A 2 lb spotted bass could pull a 2 lb LMB upstream. Quote
