Fished any this December?

Hello members. I have some questions for those of you who have been fortunate enough to fish this month. What baits have accounted for any fish you've been able to catch? What water temps. have you been dealing with? Have you managed to land any quality fish that winter is notorious for producing?

For me, I've been fishing the river exclusively all month. Water temp. has been in the low 40s all month long but we've had unseasonably warm weather here in Va.

Baits I've scored with are-

Lucky Craft Pointer 78, 78DD and 100

Rapala X-Rap 8 and 10

Pig-n-jig 3/8oz.

GYCB Senko 4" and 5"

Rapala Shad Rap #7

Silver Buddy 1/2oz.

Hopkins and Cotton Cordell Spoons 1/2 and 3/4oz.

This month I've managed to catch largemouth, smallmouth, spots, redeyes, 1 musky and 1 flathead catfish. I got one smallie that measured 19"(silver buddy) but other than that, no size to speak of. The musky and flathead I caught were both small for their species. It's been tons of fun though!

Our water temps have been fluctuating between 72 and 68. Spawn is coming very soon. A lot of fish caught with bellies full of roe. Starting to find the fish either shallow or holding near shallow flats.

I have fished almost everyday this past month and everyday has been drastically different for me as far as lures. But I can always count on plastics.

Busy with other stuff, I've done precious little bass fishing this year, but did get in a couple trips during December.

Like Hale, it's been a year of soft plastics for me, in fact my arsenal of hard plastics has been drying up since the turn of the century,

while the soft plastics have been encroaching on the hard plastics (My tackle box weighs less now).

      For the year of 2006, the lure responsible for the greatest number of bass was the Bass Pro Paddle Stik.

Hot on its heels were the Tiki Stick, Sizmic Toad (swimmer not popper), Zoom Critter Craw, Zoom Super Fluke,

Yamamoto Kut-Tail Worm & Rat-L-Trap. On my way to the Clubhouse now, to bring in the New Year.

I've fished two or three times this winter, but for me it has been unproductive...I've tried spinnerbaits (smaller ones), berkely GULP!, soft plastics, and senkos among other things, and haven't had any success.  I may be doing something wrong, but not sure.

I have been fortunate enough to fish at least 4-5 times this month.  Living in Southeast Louisiana, it is almost never too cold to do some kind of fishing.  I have fished atleast 3 differant places and I can say the most consistent bait that has produced fish is the jig w/ a uncle josh trailer or some other type of trailer.  Since my father in law lives on a 25 acre lake in Central Mississippi I have also had an oppurtunity to fish it, jig and plastic worm produced fish as well.  Some places I have fished (can look them up on flash earth if curious) Caenervan Canals (Big Mar), Bayou Manchac, Bayou Lacombe and the lake in Mississippi called Wynndale Lake.

My boat is in the shop, so my shore fishing here on St. Clair is nothing more than gear testing, but hey thats ok with me.

its been pretty good for me here in south ga. was catching nice ones on trick worms and senkos but in the last week the worm bite has been slow. i caught several this week on x-rap 8 and spinnerbait.  this month i caught a 6lber and several 4lbers on trick worms so i cant complain.

Someone stuck a knife into one of my brand new (less than 400 miles on them) trailer tires a few weeks ago.  I just got a new tire Saturday.  Needless to say I haven't had the opportunity.

Nope, right in front of the house.  

There's a new subdivision built adjacent to ours.  I've noticed more teenagers wandering around our streets than before, they seem to be coming from there. I'm hoping this isn't the beginning of a problem.  What's odd is the subdivision is more upscale, I guess I'm expecting too much from the kids of those of better means.  The tire place told me to hold onto the old tire in the event this happens again and they catch the perpetrator.  The tire can be used as evidence.

That kind of stuff makes me mad! No reason for it.  >

You can get these wireless security cameras now for pretty cheap. You may think about sticking one up on the corner of the house..you can record right to a pc and look it all over later if need be.

I had an alright Dec.  Lots of fish on * products.  Best was the 5" sticks, second was the Lizard.  I don't fish hard baits much.  Can't seem to catch anything on 'em.

The Super Flukes have not been getting bit.  Not since...Oct, maybe.   The Hydrilla at my pond up and turned yellow and rolled over.  I'm waiting for it to come back.  Hope it brings more fish.    It also kept all the other anglers away.  ;D

I've only caught one bass this winter and it was on a t-rigged worm.

Went out December 16th, amazingly warm for Kansas City area.  Caught 6 LM a 4.5lber, 3.5lber, another 3.5lber, and three 2lbers all in a friends pond.  The water was probably in the upper 40's and caught all but one on a slow rolled spinner bait, the other one was caught on a jigworm.  

Also went out on December 31st.  Went to Watkins Mill lake and we caught nothing.  The water temp was 42 and a front was moving in.  We left the lake and went to the same pond and I caught two 3lbers and a 2lber and a 1.5lber.  All were caught on a jigworm.

How many times will I be able to say that I caught 4 bass on new years eve and it even snowed later on that day!!!!!

At my home lake in California, water temps are 50 to 52.  The water has been clear to stained.  Most of the bass are holding in 25 to 40 feet of water, which can make it tough.  Most guys like to drop shot worms or throw heavy jigs and pigs.  When the water is clear and the skies are overcast, the ripbait bite can be very good.  I use the Luck Craft Staysee deep suspending rip bait.  It suspends at 8 to 10 feet and the bass come up to get it.  When we get a north wind and high pressure, the bite shuts off.  Mid February is better.  The bass go into prespawn mode and start stacking up near ledges.  That's when you can tear 'em up with a rip bait.

Went fishing on Dec 31st and caught one on a white BPS suspending jerkbait. Missed what appeared to be a decent sized pickeral, but I guess we will never know.

The weather is supposed to hold up for a while, may be able to post some pics here in the near future.

Cart - Sorry to hear about the mindless retard that decided to slash your trailer tires. Those little security cameras are great little items to have around when you have some nice things to protect.

As far as fishing in December goes...nope. Not one cast I am sorry to say. Spent most of my December with the ongoing job hunt and Christmas shopping. as soon as I get the new rig I will promptly be out to try it out.

I don't know if you'd call it fishing, but I did go out in the boat a couple of times and practice casting.   I'm really not good at winter fishing but I'm working to get better.

This has been the best fishing December since the floods in the 90's as far as numbers and size of smallmouth and largemouth on the Upper Potomac in Maryland. 4" tubes in green pumpkin/red flake, dark melon/purple flake, white 1/4 and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits, Super Flukes in white pearl, and 5-6" Senkos have been the winning baits.

Been out at least once a week.  Water temps ranged from 57-62 and crankbaits accounted for a couple but the rest all came on soft plastics-Weightless stick baits, drop shot and wacky rigs.
