jitterbug-one Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 would like to find out things about spinnerbait fishing, know nothing about it, would like to learn things like, what colors work best, size, time of year, etc. Quote
snakedog Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 I like a slower action casting rod for spinnerbaits. Sensitivity's not an issue like it is for fishing worms or jigs. The give in a slower rod makes it harder for bass to throw the bait. The best colors are black w/ gold blade, white w/ silver or gold blade, and chartruese (sp?) w/ gold or silver blade. You can put 'trailers' on the hook to bulk them up too (pork rinds, grubs, etc.). The size really depends on where you're fishing. 1/8 to 1/4 ounce baits work fine on ponds. They work well around weeds. Go down South to big bass country and you'll want to upsize. Same rod/reel rig works great for buzzbaits too. Buzzbaits are more fun in my book, but more of a hot weather bait too. Dark colors for buzzbaits. Quote
bigfruits Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 i like black with black blades at night. white with silver or gold blades on bright days / clear water. chartruese with silver or gold in heavily stained or muddy water. if its very cloudy and i dont get much sun reflecting off of the gold and silver blades, ill use a blade matching the skirt color (white or chartruese). willow blades will make the bait run faster and give off less vibration(sunny, clear water). colorado will slow it down and give off alot of vibration (night, cloudy, muddy). the smaller the blades, the faster you can present them. i only use a trailer (grub rigged tail down along seam) in murky water to add bulk. in clear water i fish them very fast, muddy i go slow. 6'-7' baitcaster, fast action, matching lure weight for me. OnthePotomac Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Jitterbug one, VanDam has an excellent DVD on spinnerbait fishing, which covers all aspects of the bait and its use. Bass Pro sells them. Quote
