Low_Budget_Hooker Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Everybody, please welcome a good friend of mine to the board, Stratosdadri Mike is the Youth Director for the RI BASS FEDERATION Youth. Mike showed me through example how awesome this program can be when the director puts as much into it as Mike does. Meet any of the kids and you'll see that it's not in vain. Fantastic group!! Mike and his team have been one of, if not THE main influence that made the Providence CAST event a success. Through this, we have established a great friendship and I wanted you guys to show him one of the warm BR welcome's we are known for. Yet another fantastic addition and resource to our online community. [move] WELCOME ABOARD MIKE!![/move] Quote

And you know how much first impressions become lasting impressions Don't mind the resident nutcase,...you're in good company, lol. Also, those scuba rates only applied when it was a secret, better find a summer job next year, your neighbors lawn will need cutting, no worries. On a sidenote- When someone I respect so much comes aboard and the first comment he has about the board is ..."What a great bunch of guys", it just makes me that much prouder to be a part of this site Quote

justfishin Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Welcome, and thank you for all you and LBH are doing for the kids. I was involved for many years in our states,MD,youth program and built up some good memorys. I remember when I first got involved and we would attempt to get some hard noses on board to be boat captains for the youth tournaments and they would grumble and complain but, once they spent the day with the kids they would end up having as much fun as the kids were. It seems that every time I finish a day with the kids I have as big a smile as they do. It is a good deal all around for everyone. Quote
Super User Catt Posted December 14, 2006 Super User Posted December 14, 2006 Good friends with LBH? Guess I can over look that and welcome you any way! You wouldn't by chance know Diane (Reelwoman) Johnson; she is the Youth director of New Jersey BASS FEDERATION Youth. Quote

StatosDadRI Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Jim B, You hit the nail on the head. The first couple years we were always begging and pleading for boat captains. Once someone spends a day on the water with a couple Jr Anglers they're hooked. With almost 35 in our program last year we where needing 15-17 boats per tournament. Between fathers and a couple moms we usually have 8-10 boats that are regulars so we are looking for about 6 captains often. Our Federation made a bylaw change for 2006 to amend and enforce that all clubs have to hold a youth event. While that doesn't specify they must be boat captains being one would comply with the rule. 2006 we had many new boat captains which turned into repeat boat captains. This past year we had a complete club sponsor a Jr tournament, they showed up with 6+ boats. For 2007 I have 3 clubs that have vowed to sponsor a Jr tournament. We have 8 regular tournaments including a campout 2 day and then a 2 day State Championship. 2006 we co-hosted a New England Jr Bassmasters Open that sent the top 6 Anglers from every club from all over New England and was open to B.A.S.S and TBF maybe a first and the way it should be, CAST For kids 2006 Providence. That's a lot of boats, captains and volunteers but the support is always there. If anyone is interested in joining a States Jr Bassmaster program or helping as a boat captain anywhere accross the country drop me a email I'll be glad to hook you up with a local Youth Director. If your Organization has questions on starting a program I'll do my best to point ya in the right direction. Quote
StatosDadRI Posted December 14, 2006 Posted December 14, 2006 Yup, Dianne is one of the early Rat Pack I came aboard 2004 and upon meeting Dianne she knew I was a newbie and lent a helping hand She and NJ are one of the biggest advocate for the Jr Program's there are. Quote
