2006 was going to be The Year of the Jig for me. It sort of worked out. I did do well with 1/4oz and 3/16oz jigs, mostly with a 3" Powerbait craw trailer. I caught absolutely nothing on the 3/8 and 1/2oz jigs. I'd try them for a while, catch nothing, switch to a T-rigged 10" Powerworm and start catching. Go figure.

So, for 2007, same plan. Get with the program with jigs.

Cheers,

GK

EVERY SPRING I FISH SOFT PLASTICS ALOT IN MY CANAL. THEN WHEN I GET MY BOAT IN THE WATER AND START FISHING IN THE LAKE I GO BACK TO CRANKBAITS, JERKBAITS, AND SPINNERBAITS. I NEED TO MAKE A CONCERTED EFFORT TO FISH PLASTICS MORE IN THE LAKE.

I ALSO NEED TO START FISHING JIGS. I'VE HAD ALL STYLES OF JIGS IN MY TACKLE BAGS FOR THREE YEARS, BUT NONE OF THEM HAVE GOTTEN WET YET.

Well, I guess it would have to be a wacky rig. Never used one that I can remember

No kidding? You dont know what you're missing!

Crank Baits!!!!!!   >:(   :-/   :'(

I can catch on a Rat-L-Trap or Rogue but beyond that it's simply moving from stump to brush to clump of grass getting un-hung.

C-rig

very productive, but I just haven't got into it yet.

Funny, a couple of people mentioned that they have a bunch of crank baits but don't use them because they don't want to lose them. I didn't throw my crank baits for a good part of the summer for the same reason but I kept buying more of them  :-? Then I started using them and caught fish with them. Yeah, I lost a few but the monkey has to eat right?

2007 will be jigs and c-rigs for me.

I have two that I want to work on next year.

Jigs for largemouths and jerkbaits for smallies.

I tinkered a little with jerkbaits late in the year and had some success. I'm curious to see what my numbers will do on the smallies giving them a shot the whole year!

Nope no kidding at all.  That is one thing I will be trying out this year.  Looks like I need to do some searching and researching on this new fanagled fancy wacky rig. :o

PS.  I thought the same on your tube response. ;)  Tubes are #2 bait for me right below the jig.  They can be fished any way from topwater to dragging on the bottom and catch fish.  IMO its the most versatile bait availabe for any water temp.

As much as I throw topwaters in the mornings and evenings and all the grass that my lakes have, you would think I would try to use a frog more often, but don't.

Seems that all the standards still work and I just haven't given them a chance in the last 5 years.

Matt.

I barely ever...and I mean barely ever touch a spinnerbait. Just not a bait I seem to have any confidence in. I C-rig about as often as I use a spinnerbait...maybe less. But if I had to choose between those two, I would say the spinnerbait is something I should focus on.

Valascus, a spinnerbait is good to learn dont get me wrong, but the carolina rig will flat out load the boat in a hurry when times are tough......I hate throwing a c-rig as much as the next guy but when you need a bite,it will often get you one.

It takes every ounce of patience that I have to throw a c-rig more than a dozen times in a row but it's worth it most times.

I've caught a bunch of fish over the years on jigs but have kind of put them aside for awhile.

I'd say jigs is one.

I bought some larger tubes to try pitchin and flippin with 2 years ago and have barely used them.

Flippin tubes would be another.

I put the spinnerbaits away this year to practice with the chatterbait. The juries still out on that lure.

So put the spinnerbait back on the rod.

I've dabbled with the dropshot rig.  Not enough time in with it to draw a conclusion.

So dropshots are something I need to learn.

That's about it.

My biggest problem with a c-rig is the overall weight of the rig. I have one H action rod that I think could take the amount of stress casting a rig that heavy, but it has a baitcaster on it, which I am still in the process of learning. Can you even throw a c-rig effectively on a spinning outfit? My spinning outfit is on a MH rod that is rated up to 5/8oz. I dunno if that is stout enough to do it. So, until I learn to use my casting gear effectively, I'll stick to learning my spinnerbaits on my spinning gear. Once I getthatcasting down though, then the c-rig will have to come out to play... :P

I've learned several new techniques while on this forum.I've pretty much fished and mastered most all of the "Eastern" power fishing methods and several others. The drop shot rig has really improved my fishing,as a matter of fact,it's probably my favorite go to bait when things are tough. And that's just to name one. There is one bait that I've tried and didn't meet much success.I really need to learn the swim bait, and I need to go ahead and buy some high quality baits.I bought and used some of the cheap swim baits .They've done nothing for me.I realize that these baits, used correctly, are dynamite, and you get what you pay for so I want to get some high quality baits.I need to take the time to learn the correct use of the swim bait.

Untill 2006 I would have said jigs, but I dedicated myself to fishing them this year and was amazed by the results.........still have a lot to learn so 2007 I will be focusing on that technique again.

I occasionaly use a c-rig, but have not yet developed a feel for it, plan to work on that. Next would have to be tubes, same deal, I use them catch fish on them, but don't really stick to it, always seem to switch to something else.

I basicly decided to focus on jigs to break up the senko, t-rig, dependency that was taking over my fishing.
