flyphisher # Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 The last 2 days I fished the 19000 acre lake near my house(GA).I covered alot of water and tried alot of different things. The only thing I found would work was dropshotting stumps, rock and riprap on sharp dropoffs in 4-8ft of water.Dropshotting is about my least fav. technique. Water temps were between 52-58 degrees. What else yall think may have worked? Any tips for these situations? Just want a different view. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 25, 2006 Super User Posted November 25, 2006 I would dropshot stumps, rock and riprap on sharp dropoffs in 4-8ft of water That is what we call a pattern Quote
dizzy5868 Posted November 25, 2006 Posted November 25, 2006 I would kill for that warm of water. Right now I 'm fishing 39-42 degrees. I would try dead sticking some senko type baits in the same areas. If the water is real clear try burning some small crankbaits through these areas and I mean burn them. You would be surprised at the # of fish that will hit it. Thats what I'm doing here in pa. Maybe even a burn and pause retrieve. Rob Quote
flyphisher # Posted November 26, 2006 Author Posted November 26, 2006 Hmmm, a pattern you say? ;D This pattern wouldnt have done me any good in a tournament, reasons I am trying to figure out something else. Quote
Super User Marty Posted November 26, 2006 Super User Posted November 26, 2006 Up in my neck of the woods, that water temperature is good for horizontal baits like cranks, spinnerbaits and inline spinners. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 26, 2006 Super User Posted November 26, 2006 cranks and traps. Quote
Super User Catt Posted November 26, 2006 Super User Posted November 26, 2006 Oh I thought you said it was the only thing working? So Catching fish is not a requirement? Quote
justfishin Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 Try a split shot rig or mojo rig off of points beside creek channels. If its pretty clear use #8 test. Rig your setup with a green pumpkin or watermelon Zoom Centipede. Back out a little in 12-20' of water. Also, feel for the grass spots in those areas and fish them well. Also, deadstick a Senko in green pumpkin or dark melon gold flake. It probably wouldn't hurt to throw a heavy spinnerbait as well, say a 1oz-1 1/2oz in a single blade. Its been 45-48 in my neck of the woods and we have been rockin them on big salty tubes with a 3/8oz jighead and 1/2oz black jigs with a flippin blue Zoom Chunk in the areas I discussed above. Of course you have a different situation going on but, these two other baits I would throw as well. Good luck. Quote
spotaholic Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I have the same conditions in the lake I am fishing. Traps, Jerkbaits, lead head fluke and small crankbaits are the ticket. What lake are you fishing? Quote
Papa_Tom Posted November 26, 2006 Posted November 26, 2006 I'm trying to cover a lot of water at this time, and that means horizontal applications. Fishing a lot of medium and up creeks/bays. Secondaries and flats mostly. Have done the best on Bandit 100 and Flat Maxx shallow, Brovarney swimjigs, jerkbaits (hard and soft) and sometimes slowing down with Brush Hogs and Baby Brush Hogs. They aren't always active in the same bays, or the same spots within. This can be one of the times of year that the quality runs higher per fish caught. I doing about 70% keepers (15") and the largest has been 24". Quote
Chris Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 jig crankbait senko on a slip cork jerkbait Quote
jomatty Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 id fish a jig n pig or c-rig in the same areas your fishing the dropshot. Quote
Super User senile1 Posted November 27, 2006 Super User Posted November 27, 2006 Well, we don't know what else you tried, but dropshotting is a finesse technique, so if that's all that was working, it sounds like your bass wanted something slow and subtle. Did you try deadsticking some plastics, or possibly using a jerkbait with long pauses between the jerks? Quote
BD Posted November 27, 2006 Posted November 27, 2006 Friday and Saturday I caught most fish SLOW rolling a spinnerbait across the bottom. I would bump it off wood/rocks, and they would smash it. I am using a terminator clear water patterned skirt. pinks, silvers, and whites type skirts. Quote
OnyxWulf Posted November 28, 2006 Posted November 28, 2006 I have found that burning a DT-6 and DT-10 is the way to catch fish right now. I have tried everything else from Ika's (some luck), to senkos, to jigs, to spinnerbaits, to whatever I have in my bag. I start with a burn retrieve then follow that with a burn pause burn retrieve and I have caught some nice fish. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted November 28, 2006 Super User Posted November 28, 2006 I would try a suspending crankbait and let it pause for a long time between motion. Ronnie Quote
flyphisher # Posted November 30, 2006 Author Posted November 30, 2006 Fished same lake, different creek tues. 4 on drop shot, one on SB........bigger fish still hitting certain color worm, certain way on dropshot. Quote
