JiggaMan512 Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 saw this on another website. heres the chapters. 1. Don't make fun of her, ever. 2. Don't push them to do everything for themselves. 3. Encourage them. 4. Celebrate her first fish. 5. She'll probably want pictures of all of her fish, so be prepared. 6. Let them pick out their own lures. 7. If you take her into a fishing store, for god sakes, don't let her see how much you spend on lures/rod/reels unless you want to spend that much money again on presents for her. 8. You can buy her something related to fishing, but until she's really into it, don't buy it for a birthday/Christmas/anniversary present. 9. Don't kill the fish. 10. In the beginning, you can basically count out day-long fishing trips. 11. And also, don't make her catch huge fish her first couple of times going with you. (that last one, i personally find ridiculous!!) 12.Unless she specifically asks, don't overwhelm her with lots of information about fishing/lures/knots etc. 13. Go on a fishing trip with another couple. 14. Have other hobbies. (dont know about that one either.... Quote
Fishin49er Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I might have to put some of these tatics to good use, and see if i can get my gf to go out fising with me. Quote
Laggyman Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 saw this on another website. heres the chapters. 7. If you take her into a fishing store, for god sakes, don[ch8217]t let her see how much you spend on lures/rod/reels unless you want to spend that much money again on presents for her. The aftermath of getting a girl hooked on fishing is even worse. You're going to see lotsa worms 'n lures you never threw into your cart when you go to the cashier..... Â This & that and this & that. I swear she's worse than any bait monkey I'll ever meet!! Â Quote
Peter E. Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Laggy you have my complete agreement! And if it looks realistic (but most likely won't work) and for some reason Frogs seem to attract their attention... But once they start to enjoy fishing the biggest hurdle for me is stressing a firm hook set, without becoming irrate. And my favorite, if they end up killing a fish, don't call her a murderer (my mistake, thought it was funny though). Simple reels are a big pluss and shorter rods too. But I stress don't skimp on quality, they pick up on that stuff fast. Don't exclude them from a day with the boys for any reason, she most likely is learning to fish so that she feels more accepted by you and your friends. And I am in complete agreement when they say take pictures (develope them quickly), and lavish praise! It is a great guide you found bud. But that other hooby junk, well, who said this was a hobby... Obessesion maybe, hobby, never! Quote
Super User Alpster Posted November 8, 2006 Super User Posted November 8, 2006 My late wife was a real fisherperson. She had no trouble fishing from dawn till dark and needed no help from me (she would ask for help sometimes just to make me feel good). Â If you have a girl who will fish with you, don't let her get away. (ooohhh, that was bad). Ronnie Quote
fishinlunatic Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I struggle with this all the time. As much as I love my wife, one of the great things about fishing(for me) is it gives me time away from her. We all need our space right.....? My wife actually wants to go fishing with me but that is just one part of my life I want seperate. Bad I know, but that is just me--- Quote
harshman Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Fishing was one of the deciding factors in me getting married, she had her own bass boat It is great to have someone who is interested in the things that I enjoy. She actually informed me on one of our first dates that if I wanted to continue to date her in the months of OCT. and NOV. that I better like deer hunting too. Â It is also great to see that she is a "Preffered Spender" at Bass Pro shop and not the mall, helps when the monkey acts up so that I don't have to explain my purschases, cause she'll want to use the stuff too. FIN-S-R Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Sacred ground that fishing thing is..include the fairer sex, not good idea. learned this lesson the hard way after about ten years of marriage. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Well my current girlfriend knows that is one of the few ways she will get an opportunity to see me is to go fishing with me on weekends(out of town). Â That and she actually enjoys it, doesnt complain, drinks beer with us guys, and isnt afraid to touch a fish or get muddy. Â Now if she could just make more money I would be set. Quote
CrazedL.IFisherman Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 My ex girlfriend wanted to go bad but i had to do everything, from putting lures on, to changing them, to taking the fish off after caught, dont get me wrong im glad she came but being a babysitter wasn't fun, im guessing there's one good thing that shes my ex  ;D Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted November 8, 2006 Super User Posted November 8, 2006 My suggestion with women, kids and anyone that is willing to "give it a try," is to take them "catching," not fishing. Bream, crappie, trout and spawning white bass are perfect examples of what I would target. You get people started by getting them excited. Fishing is boring to a beginner if there is no action. The fish don't have to be big, either. Take them some place where they will catch some fish and make the trip short. Bring food, drink and make sure everyone is comfortable so they have a good time. A good experience will make them want to come back. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted November 8, 2006 Super User Posted November 8, 2006 Flys rule #1 Never take a female outdoors who has white skin year around. Â Â Sun and them don't mix!!!!!!!! Â Never will!!!!!! #2 Don't date women without tans, it shows they don't like the outdoors and sun and no need to waste money on dating to find out the hard way. #3 Don't date women with fake tans, rule #1 & 2 Â applies. If you are lucky to find one that endured the heat, cold, and still keeps coming back, disregauard any advice other than RW's, to most fishing is about catching, and they haven't slowed down enough to enjoy the outdoors for other reasons when the bites are slow. Good luck on catching a "keeper". Matt. Quote
Pond Hopper Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Roadwarrior I respectfully disagree, this was my girlfriends first year of doing some serious fishing and she doesnt want the little ones, just wants the big one. She tends to get a little upset when I catch bigger fish then her and is always wondering how to catch the big one. She may be the exception not the rule but my little brother tends to be the same way. Corey Oh this always helps keep them interested too. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 I just tell them they take credit cards Quote
Guest avid Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Why on earth would any guy want to teach his wife to fish? Â Quote

Tom Bass Posted November 8, 2006 Posted November 8, 2006 Brushpileberry, Thanks for posting this thread. I have been married for 26 years and my wife will not fish with me. She will go out in the boat with me while I fish. I guess that's pretty good and I do enjoy her company. Also, she goes to Bass Pro with me and sees the money I spend on fishing gear and doesn't make too much of a fuss. The kicker is, I just had hernia surgery today and she has offered to take me shore fishing this weekend since I can't drive for a couple of days and operating the boat is out. I did tell her that if I hook a big one she will have to reel it in for my since I am not allowed to lift more than 10 lbs and I can't do any pushing or pulling over that amount. I am hoping to make a hook up with a decent bass and then hand her the pole just to see if that lights a fire in her. 8-) I will get her a license just in case that does happen. I wouldn't want her to get a citation reeling in her first fish....and I figure if she has a license she just might want to try it more often. ....and if she fishes more often we will need more gear. I mean, if she takes over two or three of my poles I will obviously need to replace them. Hehehe Quote
paparock Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 When you land her first fish act like you just found some jewelry (that you prepositioned in your hand) inside the fishes mouth. Then say something like " Well I'll be darn will you look at that this fish swallowed this piece of jewerly. I wonder if there are any more?" Then stay out of her way. Quote
Gotta Love It Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 I tried to get my wife (at the time girlfriend) to fish with me... Â She would read a book or sleep while I fished. Â That was fine with me (and I had someone to take my pic when I nailed a decent fish)... I realized that she really enjoyed shopping more than fishing... 12 years later, I fish mostly by myself but my 4 year old daughter loves to fish (mostly play with the nightcrawlers we use for bait)... Â I guess it is better to introduce the little ladies to the sport early on! Â My son is 2 now and I figure my daughter will soon want to shop with my wife on the weekends and my little guy will want to fish (crosses fingers)... Â Anyway, if your wife or girlfriend doesn't like to fish, make sure they have something that they enjoy doing while you are fishing!!! Â Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted November 9, 2006 Super User Posted November 9, 2006 Whoa! Buddy, I am ALL WITH YOU if that works! For most people, generically, all I'm saying is: Ya gotta make it fun. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 Well I don't have a girlfirend or a wife. I will teach her only if she wants to learn. When I go its always me and my buddy. We never have to watch what we say becasue its just us men. You also don't need to find a bush or bring a bucket when its just guys. I go fishing to get away from things some times thats the only time I can do that. So no woman. Quote
Tom Bass Posted November 9, 2006 Posted November 9, 2006 PapaRock, If I did seemthing like that with jewelry the darn fish would swallow it and my wife would release the fish feeling sorry for it, I'm sure. ;D Quote
JiggaMan512 Posted November 9, 2006 Author Posted November 9, 2006 i wish the women on the forum would give some input from their side of it. Quote
