Lure Retriever

Hey guys over the years my friends and I have invested in many fairly expansive lures and there is no feeling worse than losing a favorite. Thats why we've decided to invest in a lure retriever. If you have any suggestions to help us out it would be appreciated.

The only advice I can give you is that if you get the BPS retriever on the string, retie the knot!!

I had one for 20 minutes and lost the stupid thing due to a crappy knot!

I have a lure retriever that you dont see every day. It's an old broken rod cut off after the first guide. I have an old Pflueger level wind reel spooled with small diameter nylon rope with a lure retriever tied on the end. Works like a charm and is easier to handle than the BPS reel up kind.

Just buy the lure retriever for $4 or $5 bucks (I prefer the type with the free swinging chains), snap off a rod, get one of your grandads old reels out of the garage and go to work.

I use something I already had laying around. I used to golf and still had a 12' extendable golf ball retriever similar to the one in the picture below. The one I have just has 1 spiral thick loop on the end and I put that on the line and start extending it down into the water. It only works for 12' or less but that's where I get most of my snags.

LOL.... I bought one of the BPS retreivers.  Luckily I read the reviews on it so I retied the knot.  Well after many many uses, I guess the knot gave way.  I ended up loosing it plus a jig.  Oh well at least it wasn't a $50 swimbait.  Plus they pay for themselves after a couple uses.  

The broken rod/old reel idea is great.  4bizz has one and it is easy to operate.  Whatever way you decide to go, you can't go wrong.  it's better than not having one at all!!!

I didnt read the knot thing either, lost a 7 plug and a 9 buck lure retriever. That rod Idea sounds good, 8-)

Those lure retrievers are great for lures you can reach but when deep cranking I use a heavy ball weight slipped onto my line , just slide it on and knock your crank bait free . You can find these at any fishing retailer.

Get a telescoping pole.  

I've spent lots of time using both methods....IMO the pole is vastly superior.  It gives you direct contact and manipulation of your bait.

I have a dog(weight with chains) and the telescoping pole. I keep them both in my boat. The one oictured is almost exactly the same as the one I bought but the screw at the end is a little different. I wrap a rag around it and the cloth catchess the hooks realy well. I use the pole a lot more then the dog. Generaly an angle change will pop out a deep lure but a shallower on on wood is a job for the pole.
