Fish Chris Posted October 20, 2006 Author Posted October 20, 2006 Hello St.Croix, not to be a smart arse (although I think I can be pretty good at that when I try :-) but just as a matter of fact, I don't need to prove my catches to you, nor anyone else, either. I just happen to enjoy fish photos, and long after anyone but myself, has forgotten about about a photo I have posted, I can, and often do, go back and relive that catch, while checking out that old photo. I really do take photos, first and foremost, for myself. In fact, I have an entire room filled with big fish photos which most people will never see..... and that's totally okay, as these photos are basically, just for me... and BTW, I have a good number of photos of my buddies big catches on my wall too. Peace, Fish Quote
Absolute_St.Croix Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 Ah, I think you thouht I was aiming that at you directly. I wasnt. I just meant you as in anyone. Sorry. Anyway here ya go. My bud Tom took a snap of my smallie from 2 days ago. Here it is. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted October 20, 2006 Super User Posted October 20, 2006 I'm gonna follow Avid off topic here for just a bit. My wife and I take a lot of trips. We like to travel and now can afford it a lot more than we could 10 years ago. The one thing that gets the farthest under my skin is some moron with a camcorder who'll loudly complain that I've ruined his video. Well, I don't care about his video. I will usually stop if I see somebody ready to take a picture. That only takes a second. I will not get out the way for minutes at a time to accomodate these people who insist on taking a camcorder every where they go. Don't get me wrong, if there's a way around, I'll take it. But, it seems more and more that I have to just stand and wait for some fool. I've gotten to the point where I refuse to do it. I'm coming through. You can wait. If you insist on blocking a path to take videos, then I'm going to get in your way. Feel free to edit me out. I've already edited you out of my experience. I have perfectly fine recorder. It's called memory. OK, I'm done. Sorry about the rant, but those things just @#$%^ me off. About the camera and scales thing; I always have them along now. Didn't used to. The scale is the most useful to me. I wish everybody had one. We'd hear a lot fewer reports of 5+ pound bass. I bought a Rapala Lok-N-Weigh. It measures in 1/4 pound increments. I measured a couple of packages of burger, a chicken, a roast and a turkey to check the accuracy. It's very, very close. Close enough for me, I don't do tournaments. I've been using this thing for two years now. I measure everything that looks like it'll be better than two pounds. I'm doing this little game with myself where I guesstimate the weight and then get an actual reading. After two years, I still guess wrong a significant portion of the time. I now just nod my head and go along with anybody who says they can tell what a bass weighs by looking at it. Here's a news flash for you. You can't. There are too many variables. Once you get a decently accurate way to weigh the fish, if you're honest with yourself, you'll realize that you caught about a tenth as many 5+ pounders as you used to think. Here's a little advice. Don't go showing off your new scale by weighing in your buddies 6 pounder at 3 1/2 pounds. He'll insist that your scales are screwed up, and that he knows exactly what that fish weighs. It ain't worth the hassle. Some day he'll spend the money and realize, just like I did, that most of those 5 pounders weren't. If you're gonna tell tales, you need the scales. Good luck, GK ( sorry 'bout the rant ) Quote
Super User 5bass Posted October 20, 2006 Super User Posted October 20, 2006 How many people on here dont even bother posting a report of fish caught without having pics to back it up?I know there are lots that do post w/out pics,I'm just wondering how many people actually feel the need to back up there stories with pics or just not post anything?I'm one of those people who will not post any type of big fish report or story without a pic.Dont really know why,I guess its just an internet thing.....without proof, there will be skeptics. Bassassasin12 Posted October 20, 2006 Posted October 20, 2006 I am the same way, I feel if I dont have pics, its not that believable, plus pics make for a more interesting post. Quote
Tom Bass Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 I usually carry a camera when I go most places. Since I joined this forum I have wanted a decent avatar that shows me with one of the fish that I have caught. I usually catch and release but I have no pictures of me with any of my catches so I have been wanting to catch a decent bass so I could have a cool avatar picture like so many here. Last weekend I caught a wonderful bass that was a good 18 or 19 inches long. Not a lunker but beautiful all the same. I didn't have a scale and I was so concerned about getting it back in the water and I was so happy I caught it I never considered taking a photo, even though I had my camera on my side.....Go figure. Looks like I'll have to keep fishin' for my prize and hopefully I'll take a photo next time. Quote
Chug Bug Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Here is my thoughts on the matter. I dont have a digital camera anymore since my 300 dollar digital camera took a crap cause it got wet this summer and anyway I don't lie. If you don't believe me then who cares! I don't need to prove anything to you anyway. Just my 2cents I can't really believe this, but I think we may have another one folks. Above you state your digital Camera took a crap because it got wet. Yesterday you said that your sister took your digitial camera to college. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1161307454 Quote

Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2006 Super User Posted October 21, 2006 roadwarrior, you're right it's Louisiana Wildlife & Fisheries that is 10 lbs. either way there are ways to get proper help certifying big bass. I will add you don't need a $350 digital camera; I use one that cost $25 while it may not be professional quality it will work for my needs. The point I'm trying to make is on Toledo Bend one can get help all over the lake with proper handling, weighing, photos ect. Chris, I think your point is being prepared to document that hawg, not just to prove it to anyone but it just might be a record. If every one would check their state records there could be records open in different line classes the you could end up holding. Â Quote
Fish Chris Posted October 21, 2006 Author Posted October 21, 2006 At this point, I'm actually glad I brought this one up. Lots of interesting viewpoints here. Thanks again for all of your input. Ya' know Cat, I guess I'd have to say that the order of importance for my photos would be; 1) To preserve the moment for myself, for the future. 2) To be able to properly document a special catch... lake record, state record, IGFA record, etc. 3) To show off a nice catch to my fishing buddies, on and off of the internet. 4) To make for interesting posts.... The kind I like to see from other guys too. Peace, Fish Quote

I bought a chepo at the mall for like 60.00 to take on a trip with my uncle and it got wet from the rain of all things! The wifes camera is the one that to go on a field trip to Penn State! LOL I think I'm pretty much Cut-Off with the family's cameras. Ya know what? Â I just read through this post.. Why are you guys so apt to judge every one? Are you insecure or was you abused as a child, whats the problem? I'm not sure either, but if you are interested in talking about fishing to a good christian man than I'm right here but if all your gonna do is cause trouble and bellyache over a few words then GO GET A LIFE! Super User Catt Posted October 21, 2006 Super User Posted October 21, 2006 Right on! Fish Chris Some pictures I have may no be of particularly big bass but rather particularly big fighting bass. Some 6 or 7 lbers have fought like much bigger fish so I photographed them for the memory. Some of the guys here would be surprised at what state line weight records are within easy reach or completely open. Chris please don't tell me you use TUF-Line? Â 8-) Quote
Fish Chris Posted October 22, 2006 Author Posted October 22, 2006 you said > Chris please don't tell me you use TUF-Line? Â <<< Â Well heck yes I do ! In fact, I haven't used anything but braided line (with only a couple small exceptions... and mono / fluoro for leader material) for 13 years ! I've use braid for everything from Bluegills on my micro-light, to 300 lb Sturgeon with 80 lb on light saltwater tackle. I can honestly tell you that in my nearly 40 years of fishing, I have never had any other single revelation, which made such a huge, and positive impact on my overall fishing experience, as had braided line. So when I first started using braid, I was trying a bunch of different brands. It was ALL night and day better than any mono I had ever used, but there were slight differences between them. I settled on TUF-Line about 5 years ago, and then I bugged them until they finally started sponsoring me about 3 years ago. Anyway, I wouldn't care if some monofilament company gave me a truck load of that garbage for free.... and then if TUF-Line dumped me.... and then if they doubled the price.... I'd sooner pay for my TUF-Line, than to use anything else. Who me, opinionated ??? ;-) Peace, Fish Quote
earthworm77 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 As far as I'm concerned I do not believe anything that I do not see for my self when it comes to bass fishing. Quote
BucketmouthAngler13 Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 As far as I'm concerned I do not believe anything that I do not see for my self when it comes to bass fishing. Same here. I was fishing the other week, and some guy my age claimed his sister cought a 8lb bass in some lake. I was like, "Cool..... : good for her. Here is a picture of my 5lber i got last month." Quote
NoviceGirl Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 But then it happened ! I caught this monsterous fish, but I couldn't find anyone with a camera or a scale" ! ....oh, and did I mention, it's a good thing to be prepared at all times ? :-) Excuse me if I missed something but where was your camera or scale? Personally I like to take a camera and scale with me however to my dismay I do not need them. I do  go fishing with a friend of mine and when I try to document his catches he is more worried about getting his fish back in the water to allow me to get a measurement, weight or heaven forbid get the fish in the sights of my camera. Working at a bait and tackle shop I can tell you that we get a lot of people in who document thier catches but sometimes they do sacrafice thier catch to capture the moment. I still hope to have the chance to show off a decent catch of my own some day. Quote
