Which Cali lake this spawn will produce the record hog? Or could it be Mexico or Cuba? Or will the great state of Georgia retain the coveted honor?  8-)

I am going to be honest here. I hope somebody breaks that stinkin record. I live in and love GA but I am tired of hearing stories about another one caught in Cali that broke the record but the dummy that caught it didn't do something right. I would like to challange the guys that fish for these monsters to read exactly how to get a bass into the record books and then make a plan ahead of time on how you are going to do it. Get pictures and video and have witnesses (lots of them) at the weigh-in. Call the California Fisheries Dept. Call your state wildlife magazine to do a story and get it all documented. Then we can put the "so called" GA World Record to rest.

Look at it this way. I will never break GA's bogus state record but you can break the World Record. So go out and do it.

What is your record LM and SM in RI?

LM- 10.6

SM 5.15 (1977)

So few SM left in the state, it doesn't even matter :(

Hmmmm. I was under the impression that all extreme Northern states were more SM populated.

I live in missouri and i wish some day, that a world record bass comes out of Table Rock Lake....but i think the next record will come out of lake El Salto

lake el salto may produce the most teens but it is unlikely in my opinion to break the record, at least not right now.  i dont think it has ever produced a bass over 17 or 18 lbs.  cuba probably has a better shot but that seems unlikely now as well.  $20 says the next WR comes out of cali, but i wouldnt suggest you take that bet.  in my opinion dixon has got to be the frontrunner, at least during the next few seasons.

I'd go $20 for Cali myself.  Another $10 on FishChris because I always support my home team.

Another thought is this.  Cali has a growing group that strictly hunt for this fish.  The swimbait battallion let's say.

I wonder how many people in Cuba hunt this fish like the Cali's do?  Not sarcasm, I really would like to know what the fishing scene is doing over there as far as the hunt for the WR fish goes.  Do they even know they are a contender?  I'm uneducated on this one.

I think when the record falls it'll be Cali and it'll happen 3 or 4 times in session!   8-)

I think your right some one will catch the one in Lake Dixson then one out off Clear Lake

and I'll nail the 25lb8oz  one out in the delta in Smiths Canale under some ones dock 8-)

Yep thats how its gonna happen

I'm going to say no for 2007, but anything can happen. My money would be on a lake to the north of Dixon. A lake that doesn't get anywhere near the same kind of pressure as Dixon. ;)

Russ, There are Cubans that believe the world record is there. Samual Yera to name one. He was featured in the last chapter of "Sowbelly" (Chapter 9: Castro's Bass) . He is a fishing guide, world record chaser, and according to the book he maybe the best fisherman in Cuba.

Obviously...there is no "Swimbait Battallion" in Cuba like in Cali. And even if there was...they don't have access to equipment like us. If I want something I make a few calls, drive a few miles, or make a few clicks on the computer. If they want something...well...I think you know how that goes.

They're not a contender, too far south.

I'm thinking Lake Fork, TX either side of March 20, 2007.

The record will be broken in Cali. I know of 3 diferent lakes where a big enough fish lives. I know of two others that have fish that are verry close and could get there this year. These are all in southern Cali. The record will not be brkon by sombody getting lucky or by a regular bass guy. It will be broken by somebody who is hunting for that fish. I do believe if that Dixon beast is caught again and is still around 25 that record will stand forever or untill someone can grow one bigger in a  controlled inviornment. Will it fall in 07? probably but maybe 08. I know alot of the guys who are hunting her and they all seem to think its coming. most think its coming from the lake Capt Cali' didnt mention. I will be hunting her about 20-30 days this year so my odds are not nearly as good as my competition but you never know.

lbh,

i think other than Yera most of the world record chasers in cuba are there on a trip from the US. most of what i know comes from sowbelly but it seems like almost all of the rest of the cuban fishermen are more interested in catching dinner.  im sure there are exceptions but it is so hard to get good equipment over there.  most of the fishing is done with home made lures like worms cut from the bottom of rubber boots, from what it said in sowbelly.  apparently lake hannabannilla (or something like that) had fish that could have gone for the record and altough some still believe it most consider the lake to be past its prime (again my only source for this is sowbelly).

If it does get caught, I'd say it will be from Cali, and I'd give it an 75% chance of being the same 25.1 lb'er, that was accidentally foul hooked this year. Heck, that fish could "lose" 2 lbs (typical of a fish nearing the end of its lifespan) and still be a new WR !

But with that said, my answer is, no. The odds say it won't be caught this year, from Cali, nor anywhere else for that matter.

Peace,

Fish
