Super User Gatorbassman Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 If you get any e-mail from either e-bay or Paypal that is suspicious do not click on anything. Just forward it to spoof@ebay.com. They will let you know if it is legit or not. Quote
Deuceu72 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 Just an FYI.............Anytime someone emails YOU for account info, RUN! A legitimate business would never email or call you asking for a card number.............I have worked in a credit union for 10 years and we get warnings about this all the time! If you go purchase something, then that's a different story but NEVER EVER give personal info to someone who is calling or emailing for it! Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted October 17, 2006 Super User Posted October 17, 2006 Good to know, thanks. Quote
volpster31 Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 i got a similar email stating that i was charged $400 for something & they wanted me to "sign in" in to my account....thats how they get your password...i always right click on the email to see if its from paypal.com. a fake email will have a different address Quote
fishbear Posted October 17, 2006 Posted October 17, 2006 I have gotten the same type email from "Walmart.com" saying that my big screen tv was shipping,, it had a zip file attached to it. Well the zip file was a virus (no i did not open it, but I know someone who did, wiped out thier computer). Quote
Super User cart7t Posted October 18, 2006 Super User Posted October 18, 2006 I get those many times a week. Go to Ebay, log in and check your messages. Ebay and Paypal will contact via the message service AND your registered Email Spoofers and fishers only go after you through your email account. Quote
jomatty Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 ive got an email from paypal saying that i had been charged for something and asking for similar info. only thing was that i had not used that account for years and the credit card had been canceled for ages. people used similar scams to get peoples internet poker passwords. basically anytime anyone asks you for your password something is up. mferris Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 i get the same mail from ebay...it's like an email from someone saying they supposedly purchased something from me and now they want to know why it wasn't sent..i never signed up on ebay...i also get messages from paypal to update my acc't or they will close it..i don't use paypal and i called them and they told me it was a scam.....i delete all emails except from people i know..bank and credit card companies will tell you don't respond no matter how realistic the site looks....if it's important they will send something in the regular mail...
