coachjsimm Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Today was very interesting.................As I was reeling in about an 8 inch bass MOMMA CASS hit it like a MAKO hitting a striper. Needless to say my line snapped and i tried to reach the float but I fell in the pond. When I finally got hold of the float there was no line attatched. I usually catch 3-4 pounders in this pond. This fish is at least 9-10 pounds. My question is how do I land this fish ???? He/she will be set free..........I just want a snapshot. He was right on shore near a large rock when he hit the small bass. I usually see him swimm by at least once a fishing session (2HOURS)..........I'm pretty much a rookie to the sport.......... THANKS.............COACHJSIMM Quote
orey10m Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 If the fish is really this large, i can guarantee you its a she. If you do see the fish, don't move and make alot of commotion of course, as this will spook her. I would try a subtle soft plastic thrown way in front of her path. (Weightless trickworm, or fluke) I just wouldn't recommend throwing it on top her head right away. If she doesn't take the worm/fluke, try jerking it to make a sudden reaction bite or something like that. good luck Quote
THEbassmaster Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 id have to say try a swimbait. since it hit an 8 inch bass, get about an 8 inch bass swimbait. thats my advice. good luck and hope you get Big Mamma! aaron Quote
Keithscatch Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Wait a minute. I was told that a bass will not eat another bass ;) ;) lol. Spinnerbait, swimbaits and worms would be my suggestion. If this fails, try big Shiners. Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 rofl keith! I'm with everyone else. If she wants to eat baby bass, give her baby bass. Pick up a swimbait, baby bass colored action tail worm, or baby bass colored mann's baby 1- crankbait. Give her baby bass and give her a variety. Get your trophy! If that fails, then change up the colors just a tad. Quote
Siebert Outdoors Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Catching a large fish like this is like finding a good woman. You have to talk to them nicely and snuggle up next to them. They dont go out prowling that often. Or just fish the structure with a jig, spinnerbait, or crank this time of year and that should work too. Quote
liquidsoap Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 Get a palm sized live bluegill and use it for bait, it will go after it and make your heart drop. Quote
Murray Posted September 29, 2006 Posted September 29, 2006 live bluegill under a bobber...just kick back untill it its sucked down then set the hook as hard as you can Quote
GeneinTX Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 Match the hatch!!!! No wait call me and I will come help!!!! Quote
Dane Posted September 30, 2006 Posted September 30, 2006 In the pond I fish, I have the same sort of deal, tiny bass getting eaten by big girls on the way in. Then I discovered the super fluke in baby bass color, and I definately reccomend it. Quote
