Super User Muddy Posted February 8, 2009 Super User Posted February 8, 2009 Hey Fellas; Fourbizzle and Catt's posts about bigger worms have caused me to jump in recommendation needed I now have the 10 inch models of :Zoom ol Monsters,***'s new addition and one pack ( this is probably a waste of money) of Mann's 10 inch hard nosed snakes. I want to see what works better for me What size EWG hooks would you use for these 10 inch worms, also when not fishing them weightless what size bullet weights do you use? Quote

Super User Muddy Posted February 8, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 8, 2009 Now I have to get two brands and 2 sizes! I am going to do just that. Quote
Super User flechero Posted February 8, 2009 Super User Posted February 8, 2009 Muddy, I'm an Owner guy and have those 7/0 hooks... they are big and are a very heavy wire. Might be more hook than you want for a regular thickness 10" worm. Quote

Might be more hook than you want for a regular thickness 10" worm. What is 'regular thickness'? The 7/0 is perfect for the Ol' Monster and the 10" Power Worm. Before Owner introduced that hook, I would use a heavy wire Owner offset 5/0 and found it to be a little small for the big worms. With the Oversize, the longer shank allows the hook to penetrate the worm and have room to move up the shank without balling up like bigger worms tend to do on smaller hooks. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 8, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 8, 2009 I like to several different hooks of the same size and type, as sometimes the different mil size of the wire used to make a particular hook , can make a huge difference. It can effect both drop and action of a particular plastic, and I can work that to my advantage sometimes. Quote
Big-O Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Big O Sluggo hook is Good....real Good Big O www.ragetail.com Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted February 8, 2009 Super User Posted February 8, 2009 I use the 7/0 or 11/0 owner oversize. 7 is probably the best for you. I tend to run the 11/0 when night fishing a big fish lake. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted February 8, 2009 Super User Posted February 8, 2009 I use these: http://cgi.ebay.com/DECOY-WORM-18-60Hook-6-0-4pc-NIP_W0QQitemZ220333529595QQihZ012QQcategoryZ159026QQssPageNameZWD1VQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1638Q2em118Q2el1247 Quote
Super User Bassin_Fin@tic Posted February 8, 2009 Super User Posted February 8, 2009 The 7/0 owner is a great hook. I tend to use them on 12 inch worms though. Remember also though that the length of the shank affects the action of the bait too.A long shank like the owner takes a lot of the action out of it.I would normally use a katsu 5/0 offset and it is light wire, and great for a c-rig too. I may also get laughed out, but many times I just use a normal 3/0 ewg hook for them too. No the Ewg is not known for 100% perfect hook ups, but I don't have 20 rods rigged on board and I can fish a very large variety of baits with that hook without re-rigging. Go from a paca, brush hog,7 inchworm, beaver etc.. Quote
zbass Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 I use a 5/0 or 6/0 gama ewg. Tweak the point a couple of degrees off of the straight line and skin hook it. Haven't had any more problems that with any other hook I've tried. Quote

Super User Muddy Posted February 8, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 8, 2009 I have those already from the last time you recommended them. In3/0 for the 7 inch worms I use. I like the Gammy I usually get one pack of each in Gammy,Owner and VMC, different wire thickness for each usually! Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted February 8, 2009 Super User Posted February 8, 2009 I agree with roadwarrior, a 5/0 Gammy offset round bend is plenty big for a little 10"-12" worm. The diameter of those worms doesn't warrant anything bigger. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 8, 2009 Author Super User Posted February 8, 2009 Thank You all. I aint feeling those Rage hooks. all those products are way more than their competiors. Quote
