Zel Posted September 20, 2006 Posted September 20, 2006 When on an overnight tournament or fishing trip where you need to stay at a motel, I found a great way to help keep the boat and tackle safe. Take along one of those baby monitors. Make sure there are batteries in the transmitter. Place it in your boat where no one can see it. Keep the receiver next to your bed. If there is any commotion near your boat you will hear it and can investigate. A cheap way to keep the crooks at bay. Quote

bassnleo Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I bought a lead pot at a flea market, I pour all my own tube jig heads, drop shot weights, ball head jigs. I can buy premium hooks and pour these myself for far less than I can buy them. Gonna start pouring spinnerbaits and jigs this winter too, makes a great winter project. Quote
Super User Sam Posted September 21, 2006 Super User Posted September 21, 2006 Change your motor's lower unit oil yourself. It is easy and much less costly than having the dealer do it. Go to yard sales and estate sales looking for fishing stuff. You will be surprised at what you can find at these sales; and the items are very cheap as the people have no idea of their true value. Buy spinnerbait skirts in your favorite colors and change the skirts using the same base head and hook over and over again. It is a lot easier than retying each time you want to try a new color and much cheaper than buying various spinnerbaits to get the skirt colors you want. Check out the local hand made spinnerbaits and buzzbaits as they are less expensive than the brand names. Do not fill up your reels to the max with line. Fill them only 1/2 or 2/3 of the way full with your favorite line. Read the cost cutting suggestions in Bass Times and in bass books and see them on DVDs and videos. There are a lot of smart people out there offering their cost cutting advice to everyone. Quote
Rebbasser Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Fill up your reel with the cheap stuff until you have about 2-3 cast lengths to go and then add the premium line. A simple overhand knot will suffice-no bass will spool you. When you can feel the knot it is time for new line. Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted September 21, 2006 Super User Posted September 21, 2006 Check the grocery store for scents. Some of the food flavoring and spices they sell stinks just as bad as the stuff you pay big bucks for and its a lot cheaper. Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted September 21, 2006 Super User Posted September 21, 2006 Great idea on the baby boat monitor. Quote
vaparrothead Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Instead of expensive fishing "scents" use garlic flavored PAM cooking spray; it's a lot cheaper Quote
kfx400rob Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 any plastics you rip you can probly use as a trailer, and wallmart spinerbaits work pretty darn good for $1 Quote
