MinnesotaAngler Posted September 10, 2006 Posted September 10, 2006 I was fishing at my uncles pond the other day and I caught a 4.4 lb LMB. They only put the pond in three years ago, and they stocked it like 2 months after that with baby bass. Is it normal for a bass to grow that big that fast? For dimensions, it was 18 inches long, but I wasn't able to measure girth due to forgetting my tape measurer.. Durr.. So, I took a ruler and measured from the bottom of its belly to the top of its back and it was a little under 6 inches. I put her back in though so don't worry . I want to catch its babies and maybe that fish again in another year. Quote

Conservation Dept. stocked some trout in a couple of the lakes near my house, and one of the lakes already had a pretty good bass population. Guess what, nobody has caught a trout since spring and the bass look a lot healthier. Quote

FatBoy Posted September 11, 2006 Posted September 11, 2006 I don't think there's any way a bass can get to over 4 lbs in 3 years in MN. I've seen the avg growth chart for IL. Don't remember exactly, but I believe it would take 6 or 7 years to get to that size. Quote

You can't see their pond from any of the roads except their own driveway...Maybe they bought Cali-strain bass ;D? That's even more unlikely because they don't have a lot of fishing knowledge. Pond Hopper Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 That is a fast growth rate but I somewhat disagree with the other one. I also fish in Iowa mostly and it seems 3 yr old fish normal are about 13-15 inches. The only reason I believe this is because this is the size I catch. I know many of the ponds I fish are stocked by others throwing in big fish, but its easy to tell a year class when you catch a bunch of them. Take care of that pond too because they are a blast to fish. Corey Quote
Lightninrod Posted September 12, 2006 Posted September 12, 2006 5lbs, 6ozs--20" in 2 years. 4lbs, 9ozs--21" in two years. Both of those Bass were caught from the same State owned and managed Public Fishing Area lake here in middle GA. The lake was filled and stocked for the first time a little over two years ago. In addition to panfish and catfish, it was stocked with female F1 Bass and females only. The DNR told me they are growing at about 2.2lbs per year and those two give creedance to that. The Bass are 'catch and release' only in that PFA. They hope that the females will grow faster and achieve heavier weights due to not going thru spawns..................lesbian Bass anyone ;D?
