bitman Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Hello all, Im new to the forum and Im new to serious bass fishing. I grew up in South Louisiana so I did my fair share of bassin but we mostly fished for reds and specs in the bays. I live in West Texas now, about 3.5 hours from Amistad I might add so thats cool. Anyhoo Im wanting to learn more about bass fishings ins and outs. Do you know of any good books that are educational in terms of bass fishing? I would like to learn more about using electronincs on the boat, different presentations and why they work and when to use them, about weather conditions. You catch my drift by now Im sure. I would like to get better at this sport and join a club one day and maybe fish a few tourneys in the long run. I really love fishing and I enjoy bassin way more than any salt water fishing, I guess because it seems like hunting on the water. ANyway holler with any help and info you may have. Im sure Im gonna learn a lot on the boards as well. Quote
RochesterBasser Posted September 4, 2006 Posted September 4, 2006 Welcome to the forum! This site has a lot more info than any fishing book that I've ever read! But... I do have a good book recommendation. The B.A.S.S. Ultimate Bass Fishing Library line-up of books are really interesting and informative. The two I have are called "Top Techniques of the Bass Pros" and "Advanced Bass Fishing Skills: Best Lures, Techniques, and Presentations." My dad and I found both of these at a Bargain Books store for about $3 each. Also, Bassmaster Magazine is a great bassin magazine with a lot of great stuff. These are just some of my suggestions. I'd also check out your local library for some fishing books, you never know what they may have... Good luck and have fun! Colin Quote

Super User Sam Posted September 5, 2006 Super User Posted September 5, 2006 First, get the 2003 National Champions; then Mike the Tiger; followed by Under Stately Oaks; and end with Greatest Moments in LSU Football History. After that check out Bass Wisdom by Homer Circle and the Bass Angler's Almanac. And don't forget your publications like Tiger Rag, Bass Times, Bassmaster Magazine and Bassin. Then, be sure you are home for all of the LSU games on TV! Welcome to the forum. You will be hearing from Cajun, too. Check out the tips on this site and just read, read and read the posts. The guys are great, even the ones who like Bama! Quote
Super User Alpster Posted September 5, 2006 Super User Posted September 5, 2006 I grew up in South Louisiana Welcome to the forum bitman. You will learn a lot here, I know I have. jb_adams Posted September 7, 2006 Posted September 7, 2006 Welcome! I have a friend from Lake Charles and he knows a lot about redfish and bass too. I think he was born on the water. Anyway, there are lots of good articles already listing the basics at the BassResource.com homepage. Here is a link. http://www.bassresource.com/fish/tipsindex.html Here is another one. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/features.html And another. http://www.bassresource.com/beginner/beginner.html OK, one more and that's it. http://www.bassresource.com/bassfish/linklist.html I'm sad to say that I have always gone straight to the forum to ask questions. There is a lot of good info within the links above. If I would spend more time reading the articles, I would have obtained a better grasp on the subject. Then my questions could be more finely tuned to specific things. I think there is a point where a beginning angler is overwhelmed with information and one day, it all lines up and starts to fall in place. Then the big "OOOhhhh" factor comes into play. I'm am just starting to reach that point so I am starting to read more of these links myself. Remember, everyone has an opinion on what works for them. When you're a beginner, you don't care what works for them. You need basics and standards to learn from. Going to the forum will often yield mixed results but starting with the standards and then going to the forums makes you more proactive in my opinion. Anyway, I think you get the idea. I wished I would have spent more time reading these months ago. Maybe then I could really make my fishing partner look bad by catching all of the fish! (ha ha) Tight lines!! ;D Quote
