tmacdaddy055 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Well here's the story.... I was flyfishing on the local lake for bluegill with a friend of mine this weekend and was catching a few here and there, well the fishing started to slow down so my friend went back to the dock. So i walked over to where he was fishing and noticed something floating in the water with ALOT of line tangled around it, i thought it was just a piece of metal floating and then i got kind of excited bc i realized it was a lure and when i picked it up i thought to myself hmm it looks kind of like a sammy and then i read the bottom lol a free $15 lure that was in very good condition. But the part i thought was the funniest was that it was in the exact spot my friend had just walked away from ;D he was HAPPY lol Quote
chs773 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 sweet find im glad i was there lol maybe next time ill be the one to find something good Quote
FatBoy Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 Hey, macdaddy. Ummm...I think that's my lure. Yeah, yeah, I'm sure it is. I...um...lost it there last week. Yeah, that's it. I lost it. You said Lucky Craft, right? Yeah, that's definitely mine. I'll PM you my address and you can send it to me. Yeah, that's the ticket. You can send it to me. Thanks. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 29, 2006 Super User Posted August 29, 2006 How do you cut off a $15 lure? I'll break my neck to get a $3 spinnerbait back, never mind a $15 plug. Quote
tmacdaddy055 Posted August 29, 2006 Author Posted August 29, 2006 no, its wasnt my lure, someone else broke off i just found it idk whose it was, plus i dont have enought money to pay $15 for a lure anyhow Quote
KenDammit28 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 i was answering burley about how to lose a 15 dollar lure Quote
Super User burleytog Posted August 29, 2006 Super User Posted August 29, 2006 pulled and broke it, I guess? True, but why do you not look for it? I've found several lures this summer in the trees along banks. Found a brand new Pop-R in the back of a cove. I figure someone was fishing at night and couldn't spot the dark colored plug in the tree. Talking to the game wardens patrolling yesterday, they had found 5 or 6 almost new baits along the banks just yesterday. Lake is down about 3' and the stuff is everywhere. But if I hang a plug, I'm doing everything possible to retrieve it. Especially if it is a $15 plug. Took on water yesterday retrieving my friend's spinnerbait. Not worth capsizing the boat over a $3 bait, but there is no sense in not trying. Quote
KenDammit28 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 believe me, if I could see a 15 dollar lure, you better bet I'm goin swimmin for it. The only time I wouldn't is if it was sewer water...nothing is worth getting a turd in the ear. Quote
sniksoh Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 one time i was fishing and my friend came down to talk to me and he found a $20 dollar bill floating in the water behind me...(it wasnt mine)...he is a very good friend and he split it with me...i was like oh yeah!!! Quote
KenDammit28 Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 what good is a 20 dollar bill thats ripped in half? You shoulda smacked your friend for ripping it in two! Quote
sniksoh Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 lol ken...it was pretty soggy and about ripped apart on the way home! Quote
CrazedL.IFisherman Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 congrats thats such a good feeling, a year or so ago in the spring me and my fishing partner always find many lures, i had found a yo zuri top water plug thats probably about 10-20 bucks, such a great feeling Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 FLOATING TREASURE...........Coming from Brooklyn this brings back memories of Coney Island Whitefish YUCK!!!!!!!!! Quote
Super User Sam Posted August 29, 2006 Super User Posted August 29, 2006 Only time I won't go after a lure is 1) if it is in poison ivy or oak or 2) it is up in a tree. Otherwise, I am right in there trying my best to recover it. Especially if it is a Lucky Craft or one of my favorites. Quote
BigString Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 While it wasn't a Lucky Craft in a tournament Sunday my partner found a Rapala DT16 Floating with about 10 yards of line on it. He was hoping there was a pole on the end! LOL We missed the money by 1.4oz, but at least we came close and he found a bait! Nice find! Quote
AM Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 believe it or not, one time when i was just a kid (before I could tie a decent knot) I was fishing with a small lipless crankbait hooked one and the knot slipped out. Tied another bait on and put it a few feet down shore. about 5-10 minutes later i pulled that same 2-3 pounder out, and it still had my rattletrap on it's lip! i still to this day can not believe that. Guest ouachitabassangler Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 When the bite is slow I crank up a long time hobby of walking the shoreline at low pool. I've got several buckets and boxes full of lures, including Lucky Crafts, really every brand, mostly in good shape. I've even retrieved 3 full tackleboxes for a very valuable upgrade. Occasionally one will have rolled on gravel too long. I get new hardware and put them back in service as time allows. Lots of lures are from break offs on a fish, not a snagging on wood. I always examine dead fish, especialy large stripers, for embedded lures. Many of my Bomber Long As and C-10s are from that source. I have about a dozen PFDs, some expensive vest type, 2 Sospenders that were discarded, requiring only a $16 rearming kit. I always pull any fishnig line I snag into the boat, both to prevent someone getting it in their prop, but 3 times so far had a nice rod & reel plus lure on the ends. That's one reward for fishing deep bottom. Jim Quote
Minuteman Posted August 29, 2006 Posted August 29, 2006 I was bummed out earlier in the year when I lost a new Spook Jr. I could see it floating around in the weeds, but no boats allowed on this lake and I couldn't hook it with another lure no matter how hard I tried. I finally realized that through the years I'm so far ahead of the game in the lures lost vs. lures found game, that I gave up on it. Quote
Bass Smacker Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Only time I won't go after a lure is 1) if it is in poison ivy or oak or 2) it is up in a tree. I will brave poison oak and ivy without fear. I have never had a problem with it.. Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted August 30, 2006 Posted August 30, 2006 Congrats on the find! This is me climbing a tree with a bow saw to retrieve a $3 rat-l-trap in February (When my buddy makes a bad cast he says he "Danned" it) I'd probably go through a hole in the ice for $15 lure. -Dan Quote
