SteveF Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 When you guys by a crankbait, spinnerbait or other lures that are sold individually, how do you purchase them (referring to one bait/color)? A) Only buy one Always buy two in case they are really good and you loose one C) Buy more than two I've always been the guy that will pick up two identical baits/colors, and never ever purchase just one ... as it maybe working great one day and if I loose it to a snag or a pike I want a back up until I can get more. What say you? Steve Quote
Other. Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I buy one. If I really like it then I may go out and buy a second. Quote
jimmieO Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 The first time, I always buy one of everything. If I like it, I'll load up. Quote
BassinBoy Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I have two different situations. If I have heard great things about them or my fishing buddy has used the bait then I will pick up two since I already know they work. If it is just something I see and want to try I will pick up just one. Then if it's great I'll pick up more. But, sometimes I just load up no matter what ;D Quote
Stasher1 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 If it's a lure that I've heard/read good things about, I'll usually buy 2-4 but in different colors. If it's something that I find moderately interesting, like the Ima Roumba, I'll only buy one until I see how well it works for me. Quote
Super User eyedabassman Posted February 6, 2009 Super User Posted February 6, 2009 Just one at a time! Unless it is plastic baits, then the sky is the limit! Quote
Calcutta Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I always start with one. Ive bought so many exspensive crankbaits and buzz baits that would barely wobble or stay afloat that I learned to try before you overbuy. Quote
mtnbasser Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I have a 11 year old fishin buddy so I gotta to buy two of everything to start out, hate to have a bait work and not have one for him to use. Quote
Furbit Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 If it's a bait that I am buying for the first time I only buy one most of the time, never more then two, but if it's one like say the Cordel Big O of which I have caught a ton of bass on I will buy 5 to 10 of each color I like for I know I will use them plus with that many on hand I don't worry so much about getting them hung up. Keep in mind however I rarely spend more then 5 bucks for one crankbait. As long as them less then 5 dollar Big O's, Rattle Traps, Bandits and so forth keep producing I have no interest in 15 dollar cranks. I may spend 10 bucks on a frog, but I know I am not going to lose that unless Mr. Pike rips it up. I hear what your saying though, buy two just in case, but just in case usually means it will be sitting in my tackle box taking up space for 10 years. LOL Quote
IDbasser Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 Seeing how most everything I get I have to order from somewhere, I always buy at least 2. Quote
BASS fisherman Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I never just buy a lure for the heck of it. I always buy lures that I know will produce. In such cases it depends where I need to pick up the certain lure. If the place only has 5, I will buy all 5. If they have a bunch, I buy as many as I can afford at the time. But I usually buy several of the good uns' just so I have lots of extras for when one breaks, or gets snagged. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 6, 2009 Super User Posted February 6, 2009 I usually buy one , then if I see I can work with it then I always get a back up. Quote
Super User burleytog Posted February 6, 2009 Super User Posted February 6, 2009 Always more than one. Quote
djmax22 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I usually buy a couple in different colors. If I hear of a hot bait on this board like the Red Eye shad I will pick up several. Quote
Big Tom Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 It just depends really on the lure and my mood. Sometimes one and sometimes a whole bunch. Quote
LAO162 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 My 2009 plan... If I like them and they're on a great sale, I stock up Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted February 6, 2009 Super User Posted February 6, 2009 I have a 11 year old fishin buddy so I gotta to buy two of everything to start out, hate to have a bait work and not have one for him to use. Brought a tear to my eye, I sure miss fishing with my boy... I used to buy two of everything for the same reason. After years of accumulation, I now only buy new baits/ lures that are highly recommended by people I know or trust. I'm not very good at actually fishing the lures I have, so buying just one new plug is enough. 8-) Quote
zbass Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 It depends. A lot of guys touched on it all ready. New, just to try = one Rumored to be hot = two produced for me = two or more couldn't keep them off it day before tourny = everyone they have Quote
Super User CWB Posted February 6, 2009 Super User Posted February 6, 2009 Don't pull anyones leg. When is the last time a fishermen bought one of anything? Quote
basser89 Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 The first time, I always buy one of everything. If I like it, I'll load up. X2 Quote
Super User MALTESE FALCON Posted February 6, 2009 Super User Posted February 6, 2009 Typically, I'll just buy one. Sometimes, if I can't decide on a color, I'll buy one of each color. Falcon Quote
Primus Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I usually start with one, if it's a crank usually I'll pick up at least 2 different colors that I have a lot of confidence in. This is how I started with the Lucky Craft RC series & Jackall Muscle Deep. The RC has proven it self to be a 5 star bait in my mind, after using them about 3 years I now have app 30 or so in different sizes and colors. Last year was my first with the Muscle Deep, I really liked them plan on adding a few more before next summer. Quote
UPS VT Posted February 6, 2009 Posted February 6, 2009 I like to buy two most of the time. I use the 11 year old excuse a lot of the time. He likes to try and buy his own baits most of the time. You should see the smile on his face when he catches a bass on his 50 cent spinnerbait he bought at Wal-Mart. Quote
