Rattlinrogue Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I liked Basscenter.Sorry to see it go.Maybe they'll replace it with Jerry McKinnis showing grainy film of him catching his beloved smallies 50 years ago. Quote
Chug Bug Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I can't believe they canceled Basscenter! That isn't cool at all... I thought that Loudmouth was a good show and they canceled it to. But as long as they keep on showing the tournament coverage I ok with it... I guess. That probably won't be around much longer either. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 well I just read this months tv shows on oln or vs what ever you want to call it. There going to start to show darts and the cal ripken world series. And right now there trying to get the rights to mlb. One more thing they got the rights to sail boat racing. Well theres the end to the fishing and hunting shows. And there doing this to try to kill espn. Come on that will never happen. Oln should have just stuck to fishing and outdoor shows. check this out. http://www.answers.com/topic/oln-1 Quote
Brian_Reeves Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 American Sportsman. I watched that the other day. It's about training duck dogs, getting to be a better shot, fishing for stupid things (like bone fish in the carribian), hunting, and picnicing with Yogi Bear. I guess ESPN doesn't view fishing as a sport, even though it's growing at a faster rate than anything else right now on an international level. Someone else will pick it up and ESPN is going to lose out. I wouldn't be surprised to see FX start carrying some. They seem to come through for us guys with a lot of their programming. Free UFC, kill 'em all and blow it up movies, and pretty good series stuff. Hopefully they'll pick this up too. Quote
Gorgebassman Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 They may have cancelled bass center which doesnt really bother me cause I dont care for The Batchlor Brian Velvic but has anyone noticed there premearing a couple of new shows cant remember the names but maybe it will be a good thing ( maybe) Quote
KenDammit28 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Heres a few things. RSBreth: ESPN surely doesn't view the outdoors as a niche market when they've aired an entire week long(maybe 3 or 4 days?) competition dedicated to the outdoors..the great outdoor games. If ESPN brings something to the air its because they feel they can get a lot of national viewers..not a niche. Aside from that, they are the TOTAL sports network. Zel, I don't think that B.A.S.S. will be non-televised ever again. The coverage of FLW by FSN won't allow that to happen. As we know with all things, it eventually becomes about money and BASS can't stand to lose any of it. I'd rather watch Bill Dance and Jimmy Houston ten times before watching some guy(Jerry McKinnis) show old fishing footage that provides no intellectual viewpoint about the fishing conditions. I could care less about all the stories with some old friend..I want to be informed and understand things better. I'd say that the majority of people watch shows about fishing to be 10% entertained, 90% informed..ESPN apparently doesn't understand this. Schooled by Denny Loudmouth Bass Basstech(however cheesy, it was informative on new products and ways people can get by affordably, in some cases) BassCenter A day on the Lake previous weeks tournament coverage They COULD have made a lineup of shows people would actually watch..but they put the axe to them all..their own failure Now we have Rods and Wheels(whatever it is....I just know its ridiculous to watch) Jerry McKinnis(woohooo...I love smallie footage from 1973!) and I have lost contact with whatever else is on there now As has been said..just skip the TV on saturdays and go fishing...its not worth the time you're gonna inevitably waste on what they show now. dink Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Man, you guys watch alot of TV!!! I never have time to watch that much TV. When I'm home, I am else eating, sleeping or mowing the lawn. When I do watch TV, it is for about ten minutes and it is always the Weather Channel. P.S. Yesterday was my 150th day on the water this year . Quote
stratoscaster Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 If I'm not mistaken ESPN backed off on the fishing shows last year as well. I think they will pick back up in the spring, say around Feb (I'm in Fl so Feb=spring). Except for us hardcore fishing junkies I think the interest in fishing wanes this time of year and ESPN is aware of this. As far as watching fishing shows on Saturday morning, that's usually not in my schedule. Since we got divo I record all shows to be viewed later. Quote
Guest JoshKeller Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 has day on the lake been cancelled too? As for fishing and hunting shows, NOTHING tops the outdoor channel ;D Quote

Rebbasser Posted August 10, 2006 Posted August 10, 2006 For a while there FSN was showing Classic Patterns after the FLW coverage on Sunday(If I remember correctly). That was informative-had pros showing how to do different techniques. Hopefully they will keep showing the tournament coverage-at least you can see how the pros are actually fishing the tourney. BigString Posted August 11, 2006 Posted August 11, 2006 They canned BassTech too?? Maaaan! I liked that show! I only get to watch these shows when I have a night off and have Tivo'd them, but I enjoy or enjoyed watching BassCenter and BassTech. I tape Bill Dance, Hank Parker, FLW, Classic Patterns when it was on, Bass U, and a couple others I can't remember too. It's entertainment and some knowledge and it's better than a lot of stuff on tv. Quote
papadew Posted August 12, 2006 Posted August 12, 2006 I gave up when ESPN showed jump rope contests, spelling bees, 24/7 bike racing, etc. I only watch Bassmasters if I can find it in the line-up. ESPN is about the most ignorant bunch of people I've ever seen try to program their network. TV in general actually. Reality shows? Eating guts, eyeballs, whatever, is supposed to be entertaining? To whom, Jeffrey Dahmer? Gag a maggot off a gut wagon, and puke a buzzard to death! Rant over, please continue. PapaDew Quote
Super User cart7t Posted August 12, 2006 Super User Posted August 12, 2006 Don't worry, now that ESPN has picked up NASCAR we'll be in for treats like: "Dave Blaney talks spring rubbers and wedges" "Nascar wives cookin show" "The ultimate mouth, Michael Waltrips talks about how great NASCAR is" "Ultimate NASCAR fans video bloopers and weird tatoo's" "My Diecast car show" : Quote

Super User Matt Fly Posted August 14, 2006 Author Super User Posted August 14, 2006 Well, what did you guys think of the Saturday lineup? Not bad, could have been worse. Matt Quote
magic Posted August 14, 2006 Posted August 14, 2006 I heard it was only the 30 minute version that was concelled, not the hour version Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Are we not missing the "boat" on this? (pardon the pun) Right away quite a few people respond to the change in fishing shows. Why don't we make it be known that we are unhappy about it? Maybe I could be some sort of advocate and type up a generic e-mail to that ea of us could sent to the OLN's, ESPN's, Disney, B.A.S.S. etc. Not sure how I would get it to you maybe the moderator has an idea. I would be happy to type up something. Everyone could use it as a time saver and customize it to their liking. I could also re-search and post some links to the appropriate feedbacks. Moderator how many members do we have on this site? Should give us some clout anyway. Not to mention clubs and relevent organizations we belong to. Maybe we put some heat on B.A.S.S re-garding re-newing our memberships? I read in USA today that OLN is getting out of its current programming and wanting to move to more ESPN like programming. When they go they can take my cable subscription with them. Maybe they just don't realize how many of us are. If you are interested give me some feedback and or suggestions. Quote
bassmasta7 Posted August 15, 2006 Posted August 15, 2006 Why would they show ARENA football on the OUTDOOR life network? :-/ Quote
