Super User Matt Fly Posted August 8, 2006 Super User Posted August 8, 2006 Reading the mornin stories off another site, they say Bass Center has been cancelled immediately. I haven't seen Charlie Moore since this new guy took over in June. I have been enjoying the current lineups. Some good segments have aired recently. Quote
flippin4it. Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Â Â Â Â Matt Fly. looks like anything good on TV these days is canceled or moved to a time that I can't watch it. I'll need cable TV and a Dish with Teevo just to see any good fishing shows. Sucks. Quote
Chug Bug Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Does Charlie Moore still do that "beat charlie moore" show? Quote
RandySBreth Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 What would you expect from the maroons who canceled "Loudmouth Bass"? Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 8, 2006 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2006 Nice job, in my opinion, didn't care for Zona then, but have started to like him since his time has been limited on Saturday. I guess he's grown on me. Did anyone see that skit with Dave Wolak last Sat.? Â I thought that was very cheesy and stupid. Â Â But it doesn't mean I won't watch anymore. Thats the stuff I didn't like about Zona, stupid, cheesy antics. I want fishing, if I wanted entertainment, I'd watch a movie. Â Â Just me. Quote
basspro48 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 If you asked me cancelling loudmouth bass was a huge mistake, I loved that show, and now Basscenter. It seems like somebody is trying to make Bass saturday suck completely. IMO that skit with Wolak was hilarious, that's why I loved loudmouth bass, Zona and Kumar did some hilarious stuff. Quote
RandySBreth Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 The Wolak thing WAS from Loudmouth bass last year. I think the reason I liked it was because the silly stuff. They had "hardware" Jason Quinn dressed up like a pirate, then when he beat them he made them "walk the plank". I know, I know, "real" bass fisherman never smile, are too hardcore to laugh and it's combat out there. But they probably canned it because Kumer beat B.A.S.S up for the reasons we do, every week. And that is what I really liked. Quote
stratoscaster Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 ESPN..... Extremly Stupid Programming Network Quote
airborne_angler Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 . I occasionally catch a fishing show on ESPN in the WEE hours of the morning. Now theyre cancelling another? Can I get a witness? Cmon, whats a guy gotta do to get a good fix off a fishing show. I dont get OLN with my cable provider. So guess there goes my chance to watch anything about fishing!!! Â I can still remember TNN( The Nashville Network). They had really good shows I grew up on. Bill Dance,Roland Martin,Hank Parker,Fish Fishburn, In Fisherman. Those were always my favorite shows on the weekend. Im a huge Car nut and they had Drag Racing,Popular Hot Rodding TV, American Sports Cavalcade. Then Spike took over. It all went BYE-BYE. Can someone please be somewhat considerate to us Fishing enthusiasts? Quote
FALCON Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I JUST WENT TO BASSMASTER.COM AND CHECKED THE TV LISTINGS FOR THIS WEEKEND AND AT 11:OO A.M. THEY HAVE "THE NEW AMERICAN SPORTSMAN" LISTED. THERE WAS NO MENTION OF "BASSCENTER" ANYWHERE ON THE PROGRAMMING. Quote
Super User 5bass Posted August 8, 2006 Super User Posted August 8, 2006 You guys should be fishin' on Saturday mornings anyway! ;D No,really, that is a bummer,I dont like to hear of any cancelled fishing shows ........BassCenter must not have been putting enough money in somebody's pocket. Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 8, 2006 Super User Posted August 8, 2006 ESPN..... Extremly Stupid Programming Network Excellent description. Quote
FALCON Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 THAT'S THE PROBLEM, 11:00 A.M. SATURDAY MOST OF US BR MEMBERS ARE OUT PROWLING OUR FAVORITE LAKES WITH A GRAPHITE STICK IN OUR HANDS. I USUALLY WATCH THE RERUNS EARLY WEEKDAY MORNINGS AT 5:00. I ALSO THINK THEY COULD HAVE GOTTEN BETTER HOSTS THAN "WESTSIDE" VELVICK AND THE OTHER CLOWN. IMO TREY REID AND ZONA WOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER SUITED. Quote
Zebco202 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I enjoyed BassCenter myself. Â I found it pretty informative. Â I don't really care much for that Rods and Wheels or Reels and Wheels or whatever that show is called that they've put on now. Â I've watched it a few times and just can't get into it. Too much like some lame reality show and not enough fishing information. Â Hopefully they'll keep the BASS related programing so that I can at least keep up with what's going on with the tour. OLN is changing their name in the fall, it's going to be called Verses. Â Anybody know what's going to happen with the fishing shows at that point?? Â Heck it's not like they ever show any anyway. Â There for a while it was wall to wall Tour De' France coverage. Â I'm sorry but there can't be that much interest in this country over a bike race. Â Between that and the reruns of Survivor(is that really necessary?) they devote little time to the actual outdoors. Â They carry NHL and Arena Football, which I find some humor that a network called Outdoor Life Network would air sporting events which are played indoors. Â LOL Â Â What's next? Professional Indoor Soccer? Â In OLN's defense they do carry Bill Dance outdoors on Tuesday's during my lunch time so I have something to watch while I eat. Turner South is soon changing it's name since being bought by Fox, they are going to turn it into another sports channel, hopefully they'll be some more fishing on there. Â I'd like to see Fox step up to the plate with a good selection of fishing shows at hours that many of us can enjoy. Â While I'd rather be fishing on Saturday morning, on the days when I can't go, I like to get up and watch the ESPN2 programming. It won't matter for too many more weeks, once College football begins on Saturday, I'll be glued to Gameday on ESPN on Saturday mornings. Â They can air whatever they want on ESPN at that point. Quote
bocabasser Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 perfectly said Matt Fly. zona has that wwf mentality, and it gets weak real quick. there is a show on sunshine network here in florida called the Florida Fishing Report on thursdays @ 7:30, and the host is rick murphy. bass fishing needs someone like that. a great angler with character. it sucks that basscenter is no longer. as crusty as it was, i still watched. i say LBH should get that gig. Quote
KenDammit28 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 BASS Saturday turned into a waste of time about....the time they started showing Jerry McKinnis' fishing hole. Â THe guy knows his fishing and all that, but I don't wanna watch someone fish..I want to hear them talk about whats going on while they're fishing...if you get what I'm saying. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted August 8, 2006 Author Super User Posted August 8, 2006 They need an online poll to see what people liked and disliked. Â They have sampled enough types of shows for us to have an idea. Beat Charlie Moore A day on the lake Bass Techs The fishin Hole Wheels and reels Bass Center BASS tour coverage Schooled by Denny B I don't care for Greta Gaines, but then her approach is elementary, and I know there are younger people out there just starting and not every segement is going to appeal to me. Â Â Has to be middle ground for all to enjoy. There will be something to watch, but what? Â I'll wait and see. Matt. Quote
RandySBreth Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I hate to say it but ESPN treats the outdoors as what it really is: A niche market to fill. I'm fairly sure the marketing meeting goes something like this: Guys watch field sports.(Football, Baseball etc.)Guys also do what? Hmmmm? Oh yeah, they hunt and fish, too. Lets cover some of that. Won't that push out prime time NBA? No, we will do it on the weekend, weekend mornings. We will even cover the "big" (HAHA) events live, unless a tennis match runs long..........Oh, and we can run it right after some other odd event, like "competitive eating". Quote
Zel Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 ESPN is owned by ABC, who is owned by Disney. Â Disney does not have a great track record with direct entries into sports (remember their short-lived foray with the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim). Â ESPN is getting back a portion of NASCAR telecasts, and they've made other commitments to NASCAR with additional programming. Â I fear we are starting to see the demise of BASS Saturday, and in a few years an end into their venture with the Bassmasters. Â It looks like we'll be relegated to once again only viewing Bill Dance, Jimmy Houston, and The Fishing Hole on ESPN. Â ESPN brought real power to bass fishing, which in turn caused FLW to get big time serious. Â Without ESPN we will be looking at a giant leap backwards in the professional sport of bass fishing. Â I feel sorry for what the pros have in store for them. Â Quote
fishingrulz Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 OLN SUCKS!!!!! When I didn't get OLN there were fishing shows 24/7. Now when my dad got OLN because thats what the Rangers are on they take off the good fishing show and put on Cycling......what?!. TOC is the best channel. And you guessed it...I don't get that either. Quote
New Bass Man Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 I'm not sure losing Basscenter is such a big lost. Â Quote
tipptruck1 Posted August 8, 2006 Posted August 8, 2006 Well I liked bass center. I reallt didn't care for the other shows. But now that oln is going to a differnt format there going down the drain. It seem to me that they will go more towards sports like boxing, tennis, arena football, bike racing, and hockey. all I can say is iam glad outdoor network still has monday night fishing. I also like fsn fishing shows. I like the flws coverge of the turnnys better then bass. Quote
Madhouse27 Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 Denny, Loudmouth and now BassCenter. Now none of these three were going to win any awards but they were among the best fishing shows that were readily available to everyone. Can ESPN do anything right when it comes to fishing? Bass Saturday could have been so awesome in the right hands. We'll never know. Quote
DR_Bass Posted August 9, 2006 Posted August 9, 2006 I can't believe they canceled Basscenter! Â That isn't cool at all... Â I thought that Loudmouth was a good show and they canceled it to. Â But as long as they keep on showing the tournament coverage I ok with it... Â I guess. Quote
