News Interview

Hey guys I've got some good new, I'm 17 and I live in Clinton, IN. I'm a senior in high school and I fish as a co-angler on the Hoosier div. of the BFL. Right now I'm 10th in the points. well anyways there is this publisher my mom met and she told him about me and he wanted to do a story on my being so young and doing good in the BFL, so he did the article and had it published in most of the newspapers from here to Indianapolis. It wasn't much he just talked about how I plan on going to college in Business Marketing and trying to make it pro and combining my degree with fishing. So today im at home and I get a call from my local new, they want to do a story on me! He is going to go fishing with me at a local lake and he said he might even go to Lake Monroe this or next month so he can get some shots of me taking off and weighing in and stuff like that. I'm going to go as a boater next year, I have a 1997 19' Ranger and I do have alot of knowledge of fishing (Alot from you guys). Lets just hope when I get out there I can prove it with the camera on me, any tips on how I can stay calm and things to talk about and stuff like that? I'm pretty sure I seen someone post there Local News clip on here I cant remeber who it was though. I'm definitley going to pre-fish like crazy that way I know I can catch some fish. Well I thought I'd just let you know, i'm pretty happy, but nervous. I'll be sure to mention Bassresource.com

Fishing shows, publicity trips, or otherwise:

Just go fishing - All the camera and interview stuff will become natural in a hurry if you just concentrate on, and relate what you know.

Do whatever you have been doing to get you where you are, don't worry about interviews,proving yourself,etc. Those things will come along naturally as George mentioned.

Remember, you don't have to catch to be respected as an angler. You may strike a chord with him on a different level like environmental management or your desire to spread the sport or how it's kept you off the streets, etc. It's not always about a 9 lbr but it IS always about angler ethics.

Be yourself.

That is tremendous and props to you. Be yourself and look into the camera when they are interviewing you or the eyes of the host. But heck you are 17, they don't expect you to act like a talk show host. Just do your thing and don't worry. Have fun

I had the opportunity to fish on the news last fall Here and I was nervous going into it, but after the fishing started the nerves were gone Good Luck and let us know how it goes!

 Just relaxs  Before the filming ask the host for advice he is a pro at it after all. He sould  promt you.

tri and prep youself by speaking in front of some gropes of people. the more you do it the easier it becumes. Do the pre fishing confgedence is every thing. but if the fishing dosent go well keep you chin up and talk about the sport and how it has affected your life. You will be fine.

just kidding... be yourself... be nervous at first but then just fish and before you know it you will be fishing and talking and not thinking about a piece of electronic equipment in your boat... try and pretend that you are talking to your family and you are just talking fishing

Be yourself, but don't be afraid to let your mind go off on the ultimate ego trip.

Tell the camera what you like to fish in certain situations, but dont give advice.  For one, most people who are watching the local news aren't really gonna care about your fishing advice, but to the fisherpeople who are watching, they will hear what you are using, or your technique, and will probably try the same thing.  

And I assume this is a special interest story, so play the heart strings, be young and excited, yet professional.  make every mom in the tri-county area think "I wish that was my son"
