BASS fisherman Posted February 3, 2009 Posted February 3, 2009 Just wondering if anyone had liked these lures, or were they just another newfangled lure that just didnt produce? Quote
Super User Muddy Posted February 4, 2009 Super User Posted February 4, 2009 I never used them enough to tell. The only lure made by Rapala that seemed to have sucky paint on it. Quote
basser89 Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I picked the whole series of these when they first came out. To date, I've caught a total of 3 fish on the Risto Raps (1 musky and 2 largemouths). Needless to say, I don't throw them anymore. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted February 4, 2009 Super User Posted February 4, 2009 i LOVE risto raps. i have caught MANY fish on them. i still buy them off ebay. basser89, shoot me an email, maybe we can do some trading. Quote
Stringjam Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 I caught a lot of fish on the smaller one (about the size of the DT-6). It was way better at negotiating cover than a Shad Rap - and that's where I spent most of my time throwing it. In all, I think the DT-6 does a great job at replacing it......I don't feel like I'm missing out. I still have several of the old Ristos.......maybe I'll spend some more time with them this year to relearn their ways. Quote
flipin4bass Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 The Risto Rap is a good crank, just as good as any other crank. I've caught many bass on the RR7 and RR8. At last count I had 78 of these still new in the box and always have a couple on the boat when the crank bite is on. Most productive colors for me are the emerald green shad and char/black shad, both special limited and were not offered in U.S. catalogs. Quote
mrbassky Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 They were like the rapala wide wobbling crankbaits to complement the shad rap. Better workhorse deep divers. But the DT series is similar and pretty much replaced them. But they still work. Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 The Ristos were great baits for me, better than the DT's have been. I have some Ristos that are about to be sent off for some custom painting to match the Norman 133 color. Brad Quote
