Harley's hints. For those hard to reach places while casting, tie your line to a helium balloon and let it drift over the desired spot, once there, shoot the balloon with a BB gun. This might not work on windy days, or if you are a lousy shot!

I'm picturing some guy in the front of the boat with a scorched and smoking rod and reel in his hand after his balloon drifted into a set of power lines.

I'm sorry but this just isn't going to work.

1. Helium balloons will rise straight up without wind, with a wind, there's no way to control the direction.

2. Just where are you trying to place your lure with this balloon idea that isn't possible using normal casting routines?

3. If you somehow get your lure into some out of the way spot using this balloon method,  how in the h-e- double hockey sticks are you going to reel it back in with a fish on the other end?

4. Do you carry the balloons onboard deflated and keep a tank of helium with you or do you stop at the local party place and pickup some. Just where in the boat are you going to store these things AND I've got to carry a BB gun around as well?

5. As for the BB gun. An average BBgun isn't very accurate beyond 25-30 yds.  Most people can easily cast that far.  If you allow the balloon to travel beyond normal casting distance I can't for the life of me see how you'll ever hit the thing.

SaltWater anglers fishing off piers or jettys are known to use kites to take their baits out further.  It's done occasionally offshore as well.  Balloons?  Sorry, I just don't see it.

I dont know what your talking about dude. The accruacy on cheap bbguns are like 30/25 (in yards) But once you start to know your gun you can turn it into 40/25 (in yards) And im sure you can pop a baloon pretty far away. because 25 is a really really small target your shooting at.

Anyways cart7 is right. If you survive the powerline shock the second time you use it it goes up up and up. when you shoot it the lure will not fall exactly were it was because of the wind. anyways you cant exactly measure if the ballon is over your target. Just use a weedless lure for hard to get places. I'm sure most anglers on this forum are capable on reaching there target on there first cast. Have you ever used it? It will be easyer to take 2 cast then filling a ballon tying it to your line letting it rise then putting your rod down and shooting it and then getting your lure stuck in a tree and having to break the line. Im sorry guy but that just wont work out that well.

p.s. This should go in general fishing

Actually, the kites are used to keep a rigged bait up on top  ;)

Is the leftover balloon remnants that are tied to your line supposed to help attract the fish??

:)

I suppose if the fishing stinks you could always head to the local marina's and sell the balloons to the kiddies.   ;D

Try to learn how to twist the baloons to different shapes,i.e. frogs ,.fish  and crayfish .
