GAMEOVER Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I was wondering does anyone know everything that both large and smallmouth bass feed on to get nice and plump for us anglers? I mean whats there main feed sources and what exactly will they feed on to survive. Any list out there? Quote
Crabcakes Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 Depending on the lake or body of water- shad bluegill and other sunfish perch herring juvenile bass crayfish bugs and other crawly lake dwelling critters salamanders frogs hellgrammites gobies and theres more i haven't listed i'm sure but you could generally say that crawfish shad and sunfish make up a large portion of the diets of most typical bass Quote
GAMEOVER Posted July 25, 2006 Author Posted July 25, 2006 Wow Bass really are some hunters man, what a bunch of eaters boy.. Anyone know how often they feed? How long can they go inbetween feedings? Quote
RollONTwo Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 I think that at least a partial answer to the when and how often they eat is dependant on but not limited to, time of year, sun, moon, and barometric pressure. Quote
Shad_Master Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 You forgot baby ducks (Cabellas has lure for this, but my wife won't let me buy one). Quote
Matt Jungblut Posted July 25, 2006 Posted July 25, 2006 a bass will pretty much anything it can catch or get in his mouth i was fishng for catfish using stink bait and was reeling in my line the bass seen my worm sponge and hit it im pretty sure it was because the worm was red dont think he wanted the stink bait that is the only time i ever caught a bass using stink bait my brother had 1 in an aquarium and it would eat anything it could fit in his mouth its was a 125 gallon tank he had about 10 bluegil 4 bullheads the bull heads were the first to be eaten as they were smaller that bass would eat so many minnows it couldnt close his mouth all the way then at night it would average a bluegil a night this bass went from about 6 inches to 12 in a matter of 2 months non stop eating machine but then again there wasnt anybody he had to compete with either he also eats nightcrawlers hotdogs my brother ended up lettin him go because he couldnt keep up feedin him Quote
Nick B Posted July 26, 2006 Posted July 26, 2006 Bass are opportunistic feeders, know what kind of forage is in the lake you are fishing and that should help you with lure selection Quote
