GAMEOVER Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 This site aside. Are there any other great fishing sites you frequent that provide a lot of information? Can anyone point me to some real nice informative websites or just good fishing sites overall? Thanks. Quote
CJ Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 There's no use in getting worked up over somebody asking about another sight. We aren't a Branch Dividian compound. GAMEOVER,have you explored this sight to its fullest? There's not much that can't be answered here. Is there something in paticular you are trying to find or find out about.Other than BR there is only one other sight I use for fishing sources and that is the local one for me. Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted July 21, 2006 Super User Posted July 21, 2006 It's not at all inappropriate. I think that is a very legitimate concern. I've wondered that many times myself. I have spent the last year trying to find one that even comes close to this site and I haven't been able to find one. . Quote
slappy Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 In the process of finding this site I explored lots of other sites.Take it from me none compare Quote
GAMEOVER Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 I have said nothing but good things about this site and I find it VERY helpful and usefull but you cant say theres just one site thats owns it all. Thats like argueing over search engines. Me asking this question has no negative effects on this site what so ever or is it me saying some of the things one or two of you said. I obviously love it here and am proud to be apart of this great community. Site recommendations could be anything from good places to buy bait, general knowledge of fishing sites, sites that maybe tell you how and show you how to tie every fishing knot possibly known to man, the list could go on. There is nothing wrong with this question. Quote
tipptruck1 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I have loged on to other sites but by far this is the best. I have learned a lot form the guys and girls on this site. Quote
Guest ouachitabassangler Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 This is a rare site, a place where serious anglers talk serious fishing. Way too many of them out there with a little promise get clogged with idle chit chat I could get anywhere in a general chat room. There are some very good pro sites where you can find specialized topics in their articles, but once you've read through them that's about all there is. One focuses on spinnerbaits, another jig, another crankbaits, most with some variety, but covering their particular strengths. Even so, eventually it all gets told here, conveniently, once someone asks a question. We might not catch all the latest nifty Rick Clunn tricks right away, but those tend to get spread around soon enough. I detect we have a large number of seasoned anglers here that have bass fished from times when most fishermen were still dangling crickets from the bank or jon boat. I'd rather harvest what they know than read a website elsewhere. Many of the new techniques you might discover out there might seem fantastic, might be a super new way to get bites, but they don't tell you how many hours of practice and refinement is required to make those work. People here are catching bass on a regular basis and have a wealth of knowledge they are sharing towards others doing the same. There's a link page that will get you to virtually every significant bait & tackle site, along with tons of other helps to find just about anything you might want. I could add a few more like sites devoted to custom bait building, pond stocking & management, and other side topics. I wonder how many active members have discovered the resources here. If you have read what I found you won't be wanting to take on yet another board for bassing anytime soon. Jim Quote
Super User KU_Bassmaster. Posted July 21, 2006 Super User Posted July 21, 2006 There are many sites out there that are area specific. Before I went on a fishing trip last year I posed a question here about some Lake Fork info. The site was still fairly young (not as many members as now) and I didn't get much of a response mainly because nobody was from that area. Somebody did give me a link to another Texas forum that helped me out big time though. They narrowed down my place to stay, places to eat, place to rent a boat, what to expect, etc. You did however had to put up with a lot of "junk" they you don't have to put up with here, but there were some genuinely nice people that helped me out. But now we have Matt_Fly here for all your Lake Fork info. He all but opened up his Lake Fork Bible for LBH, Hawg_hunter and gang. So yes there are probably some other sites out there that might be better suited to ask specific questions about certain areas or lakes. But as a general fishing forum, there is no place like home. There are sooooooooooooooooooooo many great people here that are willing to share their knowledge and pass it on. Quote
PlasticMan135 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 FIRST OFF, THIS SITE IS AMAZING!! I am a History teacher, and I tend to take a "researchers" approach to information gathering. It is best to consult MANY different sources, that way it is possible to collect ALL the information. It will also lead to better decisions, as well as lead to a more rounded fisherperson. I know that from time to time I may not be interested in specific posts simply because they do not apply to the type of fishing that I do. For example, I do not have the liquid assets to purchase a $300 reel or a $300 rod. (A wife and children will do that to you ) As a result, I read most every post that can help me or that I can give help to. This site is also more related to boat-lake fishermen, and it is possible that GAMEOVER may want to research something in rivers and streams for smallies. THAT IS NOT A PUTDOWN, OR NEGATIVE COMMENT. I still visit this site first and will continue to do so. GAMEOVER asked a very valid question. One site that I visit is geared towards river/stream fishing. I also visit tackle tour when I am in the market for new equipment. I also am a member at Bill Dance Outdoors. By the way, it is amazing how so much information can exist on different site and still new information is learned. Yes, I am new here, and do not wish to offend anyone by this post. I am just trying to help out another bass resource member. Quote
George Welcome Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 For you that gave a helpful answer, thank you. For you playing board policeman - find something else to do. If the owner of this page doesn't like something, I have yet to see him bashful. Many of the other sites have the same posters. There isn't many here that I haven't seen elsewhere. It would have been nice if you said who you were, and where you were from. This way you might have gotten more help as there are boards out there that are pretty state specific. Quote
Guest the_muddy_man Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I go to a few pages when I get the rare chance to fish out of state Back Home in NY or in Jersey Its a good way to see here to go and where to stay There are good people at these sites also This is America and all you gotta do is click man and see for yourself Quote
Jeff_NHBA Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I find it useful to go to location specific sites like Potomac Bass.com to get a more local angle on things. So you might try to find something similar where you live. It never hurts to get all the info you can. Eventhough this is a great site as the content is thorough and the layout is very user friendly, you never know, there might be something else out there that's useful. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 I know of at least 1 board with more members but quality over quantity surely reign in this realm. Many of our members are past members from the other big boards that were not happy with the style , format, and regulations that they were governed by. This is BassResource's niche. The no attack, helpful atmosphere is somthing that had been missing on bass boards since they first came around. Again,..many "local" boards incorporate this same mindset but as for the other biggie national boards,....we stand alone. I would imagine that there are boards out there that may offer more if they are specialized (like for tourny fisherman only, etc) than BR but none have the industry covered from tip to toe as completely as Glenn. gatrboy53 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 pinkfloyd,i think your comment was somewhat unfair as ive seen you on the floridabassforum before.b.r. is a very good forum mainly because there isnt a whole lot of controversy for such a large forum, a wealth of information to make any level of fisherman better. i spend more time on fbf site because it is local specific, but i enjoy this site immensely as well as fbhp as well as others.i have even directed those looking for fl. bass fishing info to the fbf from this site as well as to this site Quote
BassKing813 Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Oops. I just realized that GAMEOVER was asking about other fishing sites in general. I interpreted it as him asking for another forum, which he was not. I don't know why I thought that. my mistake GAMEOVER. I misinterpreted your post. Quote
