wheezo Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 I'm pretty new with some basic fish terms. Just to understand the forums and articles more, I was wondering if you guys can help me with some vocab... What are... points flats banks finesse fishing flukes french fry fat ika jitterbug "Gitzit, T-rigged, 1/16 weight with a bead, unpegged. " What's a gitzit? What would you consider weeds? The plants in the water? Or the tall grass like plants that grow out of water? (what do you call those?) What would you consider cover? Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 point- an extension of land that juts out from the main lake body, like a peninsula,...the stretch of land that continues underwater is also considered as a part of it. Flat- a level area of bottom contour that has deeper water near it. The fish move up from deeper water onto the flats (shallower water) to feed. Some flats are also used during the spwan depending on bottom aggregation. Banks- the edges of your pond or lake. Finesse fishing- a method of fishing which incorporates the use of lighter line, smaller tackle, and delicate presentations. Used mostly in very clear water. Flukes- a soft jerkbait i.e. zoom super flukes, slug-o fin-s, etc. French fry- A ribbed, soft plastic worm of equal diameter tip to tip. Fat Ika- another "tube-like" soft plastic made by GYCB Jitterbug- A dance done on the bank that drives bass crazy. Originally learned during an outdoor performance of "Riverdance". KIddin- It's a hard plastic , topwater lure made by Arborghast. Gitzit- brand name of a soft plastic tube. Weeds are weeds, reeds are reeds. Both are cover. Cover is anything the bass can use to hide himself whether it's for protection or for an ambush point. Cover tends to also hold smaller bait which attracts the bass to it. Bass will use cover in many ways. Quote

Valascus Posted July 5, 2006 Posted July 5, 2006 Jitterbug- A dance done on the bank that drives bass crazy. Originally learned during an outdoor performance of "Riverdance". ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Is that why you do so well on your outings LBH? Drive 'em crazy before ya hit the boat. You'll have to teach all of us that dance in one of your up-coming videos!! Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 5, 2006 Super User Posted July 5, 2006 Here 's another term you need to learn: BaitMonkey Quote
Guest bigtex Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Uhm... okay, so what's a baitmonkey? Here we go. If you start to fish alot then you and the baitmonkey will become really close friends. LOL Quote
bait__Monkey Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 Buy that bait and that rod and reel would look nice on your boat. And and you might just need that chatterbait one day. You can always ask for forgivness after you get a new boat. She won't be mad for to long. Quote
Super User Marty Posted July 8, 2006 Super User Posted July 8, 2006 Uhm... okay, so what's a baitmonkey? It's an overworked phrase that should be added to the profanity filter and never again be allowed to show its ugly face on this or any other forum. Quote
bait__Monkey Posted July 8, 2006 Posted July 8, 2006 C'mon man, I'm the dude on your shoulder,....whispering in your ear.... Remember the voices pulling you towards the new reels at Dick's? Yea,..those,...that was me man Quote
