CJ Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 I caught my first bass on a rooster tail(in-line spinner)out of the Clarks River in western Ky.Though my dad was a tournament fisherman at the time,it was my mother who took me and put me on the fish.I was 5 years old but had excellent casting skills. There was a clearing near a blown out bridge that held a number of bass and still does to this day.My mother lined me up to show me where to cast.On the first cast I landed the 12 inch largemouth.I was so excited I chose to leave imediatly to go show it off. I haven't been back to the same spot in a while but I take my two sons down to the Clarks every now and then so that I can hand down the experiences I was once handed.Wow,just thinking about it,"BOYS!GET YOUR POLES!WE'RE GOING TO THE RIVER! senko_77 Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 whenever I think of it, it brings a smile to my face. I always like fishing but never really went except in the ocean, so my freinds dad took me and him to a little pond and rigged us up with buzzbaits. I thought they were the most insane thing I have ever seen. Anyway, it was nightime, and all the sudden BAM. Fish on. Only was like lb, but I was hooked that second Quote

Dr. Bass Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 My first bass came the summer after third grade. I had broken my arm on my birthday and was in a cast from the shoulder down on my left arm. My family and I were at our cottage on Wixom Lake in Michigan. I couldn't enjoy being in the water because of the cast so I stood on my side of the sea wall. (now comes the fun part) It had been raining heavily the past two or three days and the ditch beside the cottage that was now filled with water was draining into the lake right next to where I was standing. It must have been the seeds and things from the ditch because it was attracting everything and anything. I caught bullheads, northern pike, walleye, and yes BASS...this lasted from morning till late afternoon.....it was the perfect present for a skinny little 9 year old with a broken arm that had to sit out little league that summer...... bassdocktor Posted July 7, 2006 Posted July 7, 2006 I can remember my first keep sized (14") and my first decent sized one. The keeper came on a white buzzbiat that I threw right against the shore. The people had a slide set up right near the shore and that's where I threw it. As soon as it hit the water I got it. Well now I have a tendency to fish slides if they are around. The first decent bass I caught before that was on a wacky rigged french fry off of a weed bed. That was actually the first bass I ever caught on a baitcaster (also my first baitcaster). I got the idea to fish the wacky rig from one of those old Trophy Bass games for the computer. bassdocktor Quote
Super User Sam Posted July 7, 2006 Super User Posted July 7, 2006 When I was about 10 years old, my aunt, two cousins and I were visiting some friends in the Louisiana marsh and my older cousin had been bass fishing but caught nothing. So a little while later I picked up his rod and spinning reel and just started casting it out into the marsh water. I don't remember what bait we were using but I think it was a spoon. All of a sudden I had a hit and set the hook on a 2 pound bass. It scared the heck out of me. I had no idea of what to do as all the fishing I had done to that point in my life was either fishing for bream or salt water fish. So I reeled as fast as I could; the fish was jumping and make quite a lot of racket; and all I thought about was some alligator would hear the commotion and come to investigate. I landed her; got the hook out; and let her go. It was a fantastic experience and one that I still vividly remember. Back then we called bass "Green Trout" and my uncle and cousin used to fly fish for them in Louisiana's "Biloxi" marsh (south east of New Orleans) while my other cousin and I fished for speckled trout, sheepshead, red fish, drum and croakers either from my uncle's 46 foot yacht or one of the two 16 foot skiffs we pulled behind the big boat. Memories are great and I have enjoyed reading everyone's first experience. Thanks for sharing. Quote
