Super User senile1 Posted July 3, 2006 Super User Posted July 3, 2006 I'll bet for most of us, we'd like to learn all of the techniques and lures. I've already posted on this thread and I have my weaknesses and techniques and lures that I prefer, but this isn't because the other ones aren't for me. We're all proficient with the techniques and lures that we were started on. I want to learn them all. I'm sure I'll still have favorites, but it can only improve my fishing ability by adding more tools to the arsenal. Quote
Super User Matt Fly Posted July 3, 2006 Super User Posted July 3, 2006 Winter time spooning. Sometimes you don't move the spoon at all, just let it set there. I like to keep the blood moving in the cold and just sitting there doesn't keep me fired up enough. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 3, 2006 Super User Posted July 3, 2006 If I were a tournament fisherman I would spend at least 75% of my time flipping and dropshotting. I don't like either. Flipping: Heavy equipment, jerking fish out of the water, just not my cup of tea. Dropshotting: I only catch small bass. I also don't fish spinnerbaits much, mostly because it seems everyone does. I occasionally fish spoons, but talk about B-O-R-I-N-G...Well, maybe if I caught better fish on these lures I would have a different opinion, but I haven't. Note: Last summer I was bottom fishing in the Gulf with at 75' in 250' of water, verticle jigging with an 8 oz. "spoon" that reminded me of the spike you might place on the top of a Christmas tree. The equipment, weight and dept made this very physical fishing. However, I landed my biggest fish ever, an 85 lb amberjack. The fish just about killed me. Fish on at around 8:00 AM, boated forty-five minutes later. I didn't fish the rest of the day until about 5:OO, or a hundred beers later! Quote
Fish Chris Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 It's not often that I can't come up with some kind of response / argument.... But your response above (limiting my chances) is spot on ! Very good points ! Peace, Fish Quote
Hot Rod Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 My least favorite thing is deep structure fishing with any lure. I get impatient in 20+ ft of water. I catch 'em in deeper water but I'd rather be fishing shallow. Not necesarily pounding the bank though Quote
stratoscaster Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 Drop shot rig. Even when I fish slow it's usually not that SLOW! Also the lakes I fish are either to weedy or to shallow. Quote
Keithscatch Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 My least favorite technique is fishing with a jig. While I have caught some decent sized fish on them it is tougher to fish a jig. Plus here in Florida I can't seem to get them to bite a jig. Chatterbaits have produced a few fish but not jigs. Quote
-Drums- Posted July 3, 2006 Posted July 3, 2006 For me, it's crankbaits. I pretty much never fish them, mainly because I mostly fish from the bank and I'm not so willing to take the risk of losing them. From a boat, it's easier to go after it if you get hung up. So, since I never fish 'em, I have no confidence in them. I'd like to change that this year. Quote
fish-fighting-illini Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 don't work- Jig and pig ( not one singe bite) C-rig ( lots of bank fishing and harder to do from the bank I believe ) t-rig " " pitch and flip maybe I'm not a slow patient fisherman? does work #1 SWIM baits! spinner baits crankbaits buzz baits Was always terrible at fishing for 20years ( had some tough lakes to be fair), gave it up for 20years then took it up again in different area of the state. Still no luck until I tried SWIM baits, then I gained confidence or whatever and now I can catch them on several things. Fishing is fun finaly, just like on the shows ( not quite as many fish as the shows though!) Just bought my first boat so now I'm going to do some experimenting. Quote
DR_Bass Posted July 4, 2006 Posted July 4, 2006 Wow! I cant believe how many people posted drop-shot rigging as a least favorite. I love to fish a drop shot rig. Also I cant believe all the people that posted jigs as a least favorite. I guess that we are all a little differant and could all learn alot from each other. I think more people like to fish fast than slow. Quote
