TLBassin Posted June 29, 2006 Posted June 29, 2006 Im sure it has happened to all of us, esp those with boats. Here recently it seems like all I have done is shell out money on fishing (and not on things that I chose to spend on). Had to buy a new motor, tire blew out, replace lost lures(which is not as bad), fix a rod, etc, etc, etc... After this Ive had people tell me that the two best days in a mans life are when he buys his boat and sells his boat. I LOVE fishin and my boat way to much for that to happen, but are any of yall in this same rut too???? :-/ Quote
Spencer W Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I haven't been able to get my boat out this year, the reason being is that i'm replacing the floor. It doesn't help when i don't have much time to work on it. I get upset everytime i walk by it in the garage and see it. Quote
goldenmonkey Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I bent my trailer up pretty good early this year. and I had to rebuild my carb around the same time. other than that its been good. Im just glad I know how to do any work myself and not have to pay for labor. Quote
RLinNH Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I've had my Boat for over 6 Years. I bought it new and Knock On Wood, other then routine Maintenance, I haven't had an issue. Quote
George Welcome Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 This should help: 2004, spring season - I stop to explain some of the layout of the lake to a client and while idling the engine quits. After several attempts to start I smell smoke; end result was two regulators, some wiring and the stator - over $1000. Two weeks later: out for a day of scouting and the engine bogs down and quits; end result a blown power head - Too much money to mention. One week later: when taking the boat out of the water we note that the cavitation plate is broken off the lower unit case; end result a new case and the cost of tranferring the gear assembly - another $1000. Over $6000 to this point: Three weeks later: Scott prepares to launch with clients and the motor quits while idling - it won't restart: end result was the replacement of the throttle positioning sensor - Another $400.00 So as you can see, although you had a bit of rain you didn't have the t-storm that I did. I won't even get into the number of tire repairs and replacements I go through each year. Why do I fish - I love it! Quote
Super User flechero Posted June 30, 2006 Super User Posted June 30, 2006 After this Ive had people tell me that the two best days in a mans life are when he buys his boat and sells his boat Heard it a million times... funny how it's usually someone that used to own a ski boat that says that! I bought my current boat new in May of '94 and have had more than my share of bad luck... including a drunk driver hitting it (when it was only a year old) while it sat in my driveway on the trailer. 10 months of not using it and fighting with insurance companies, while making payments on it > Anyway, even with all the B.S. that can go wrong, all I need is one day back on the water and all is right again. Not everyone is cut that way. (but I'm sure glad that I am!) Quote
bassmasta7 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 It seems like it all goes wrong at once. Like George, I had a million things go wrong soon as i bought my boat. 1. When i was bringing the boat home my dad was backing it into the garage for the first time he jacknifed and the boat made a small dent on the corner of the truck. The problem is it was my sister's boyfriend's dad's truck. He went to get it fixed and the guy said he couldnt undent because it would mess up the paint. So it would cost $400 to replace the panel of the truck. 2. The tire blew on the way to the lake. 3. The bearings were shot when we tried to replace the tire. The bearings had literally melted onto the axle so the tires wouldnt fit. 4. When i was cleaning the boat my dad didnt want to let the garage to get wet so he closed the door but as it was closing something was in the way and the door didnt bounce back up. It just kept going and we had to replace the door. 5. I was at the lake and the trailer was at home and my dad backed up his Mustang into it and had to replace the bumper. 6. I forgot to put the plug in. I figured it out before it got too bad. More stuff has happend but all this stuff happened in about one month. Quote
