Just picked up the four Mud Bugs below. Sizes are 3-3/4", 3-1/2"

and 3". Was wondering if anyone has used them, and if so, how deep

will they run?

Thanks,

Tom

I uesed to catch lots and lots of bass on Mud Bugs, especially that next to the smallest size. Sorry I can't remember how deep any of them run but use them they work.

Wow! Brings back memories. Used to troll these all the time. First bait I ever drilled a hole in and put BB's inside. I've hit 30 feet trolling the larger one. Casting probably 10-15 feet on a long cast with thin line.

Boy I forgot all about putting BB's in those.

I used to catch a lot of fish on Mudbugs..I don't know why I quit fishing them, I  still have a few left. I would like to find some more of the 1/4 oz ones. I don't think they dive very deep but really can't remember.

Well, I'll definitely give them a try. And they all have a ball inside, so wondering why you guys would need to put BB's in them...?

Mud Bugs (AND the old Bombers) are still awesome. They have that funky profile and erratic kind of twitchy action.

One particular little red Bomber ALWAYS gets smacked when fish are on shallow chunk rock.

I also have one of the monster-sized Mud Bugs that some of the Texas guys like to throw. (I call it the Abominable Mud Bug)

Seeing that thing come through the water is almost scary - - it looks like a psychotic rabid alien. If I were a bass I'd be scared as hell seeing that thing bouncing along...

BTW...that "little" plug above is a Lucky Craft BDS 3

Throw them to the shore and reel back into deeper water.

They will tear up the bottom and attract the bass.

You can use a stop and go pattern, like a moving crawfish.

Do not bounce them high off the bottom.  Make them look like a crawfish.

The smaller ones are excellent.

Use the larger ones for larger bass populations.

Be patient. Sometimes the bass will not be interested and will want a fater moving bait.

Crawfish colors are excellent but other colors can work, too.

Good luck.  :)

P.S. Where did you find them?????

They are fine tools of the trade, as "Buck Perry" would say. For straining water in search of active fish, shallow to deep, you can't beat them. With the exception of Buck's "SpoonPlugs" that is. Mainly used trolling to locate active fish; then casting to catch 'em all!  :)

Sam, I picked them up on eBay, got all four for $20... Interesting thing, though, the first Mud Bug's I bid on were two brand new one's, still in their original packaging, and I stopped at $18... and believe it or not, they sold for over $50 for two!!! Ridiculous.

By the way, thanks everyone for your insight into these intriguing lures.
