pond way too mossy

there is a pond by where i work, probably two acres big.  theres fish in there ive caught  some 3 or 4 pounders. that was earlier in the year, now the moss almost completly covers the surface. it  is so bad you cat really even fish with a worm without draging in a big clump.  what would you guys suggest to fish with?

i did catch a dink today on a weightless zoom frog.

Fling a 1 oz jig&craw high enough to poke through, then yo-yo it through the hole. Use a heavy rod and 50+ pound braid so you can drag it and 10# of weeds in together. In about 8 feet depth or less stick with dark contrasting colors like sky blue and jet black since light penetration under matted weeds is very low. Deeper go with mostly black with purple or all bone white even though the bass probably never eat white food.

Just because the bottom is nasty (and I'm sure I can relate to this........it sucks when every cast brings in 2 lbs of snot) does not mean you neccessarily have to go pure topwater.  Try a shallow crank or zip a spinner over the slime, the point is just to stay off the bottom so you can get a nice clean cast.  (It blows when you cast out 30-40 ft just to have it ruined right off the bat by a clump of weeds or moss)

Coolbeer, the lake I fished while growing up was similar to your description.  I still go back there occasionally and fish it with my Dad.  Coontail moss fills the lake, but since it is what I'm used to, I love it.  There are large sections of the lake where the moss reaches the surface and there appear to be no gaps.  It's like fishing a large hedgerow.  I've had lots of luck fishing floating rapalas and spinnerbaits over the moss, in gaps, etc.  I'll also use a worm weightless and fish it over the moss and through gaps.  When I find a hole I let it drop in.  It is imperative that you use a contrasting color that the fish can see.  The great thing about a lake with this much cover is most people don't like to fish it and there is less pressure.

If I were you I'd fish with sodium phosphate and grass carp to get that pond under control ;D

I would definatly go weightless with my soft plactics.  Have you tried a rubber mouse or rat?  What about one of those horny toads everyone is raving about?

Depending on how much moss there is it varys as to what I use.  If there is alot of holes in the moss then I will go weightless and target those holes.  If there aren't any holes I use a heavy sinker and punch through the moss and let it sink then raise it back up and just tap the bottom of the moss without breaking back through they usaully hammer it and it's one of my favorite ways for moss.

We have that problem on most of the lakes I fish here in WI.  I tend to use a lot of topwater lures, scum frogs, SPro, Horney Toads, etc...   I also use weightless plastics over the top as well, let it slide into the holes.  The Horney toad type baits seem to be producing very well this year, however, I went out on Friday and probably went through 10-15 of them.  Most just started to get chewed up in the weeds and I had to run a new one.  They are not very durable, doesn't matter what brand you use either. I've tried Zoom, Sizmic, and Mann's.  All of them seem to have high and low points.  I had the best succes casting them to an open spot, then bringing them over the weeds.  They lasted much longer using this method as well.  Instead of just dropping them into some sludge.  I tried using hte SPro frog with no sucess, all my hits were on the Mann's, thats not to say on another night the reverse might be true.
