this friday i am going to this place on the mississippi called cold springs and it is a very interesting place because on one side it is scummy and weedy and the other is rocky and big rocks and a train bridge and last time i went all i caught was northern and i am going friday and i want to catch some smallies so any lure tips or any thing would be great because i have only caught like 3 smallies in my life because usally all i catch is largemouths.

I dont know anything about the area you will be fishing, but....

I would definately stay around the rocks if you want to catch a Smally.

As for baits... I would definately be throwing a crankbait made to run slightly deeper than the water you will be in, and in a crawfish color.

A tube you also be a go-to bait in a place as you have described, or maybe a smaller Fluke type bait.

And you could never go wrong with a 6"-8" black worm.

These are just suggestions that would cover about all types of natural food a fish might encounter, be sure to check what types of baitfish/craws you actually see in the water and be prepared to try to match what you see with your lure choice.

P.S. Not a flame, just a suggestion, it is easier for people to understand your posts when proper or at least an attempt at some punctuation is made.

I can't help you very much. But if you locate them, smallies will readily take a full variety of lures. So whether it's a crankbait, topwater, jig and grub, spinnerbait, inline spinner or whatever, if you're fishing a lure appropriate for the conditions, you stand a good chance of catching some.

If I were in your situation, I'd definately stay on the rocks and crawl jigs and football head jigs with spider grubs, tubes, or crawfish imitations since craws naturally live on the rocks. I think these would be your best bet. But if these don't work, I'd start doing what everyone else said, deep crankbaits, chartreuse bladed spinnerbaits, stuff like that. Hope this helps and good luck!

Focus only on the rocky areas along the edges of deep pools.

Three good smallie lures are a small tube lure, 1/8oz hair jig and 1/8oz jig & 3" curly grub.

Fish them very slow with a natural drift.

Jerk baits work real good for smallies up here in northen wi. But I would throw tubes and crawdad type looking baits along the bottom.

Caught a few real nice ones last week on Mann's Hardnose Lizards.

Caught them from the Mighty Ohio River. The biggest went a tad over 4 pounds (my biggest smallie ever).

Throw a weightless lizard, and see what happens. Might surprize ya:)
