BassChaser57 Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 As I mentioned in another post, I have just received lots of tackle (mostly plastics) from the estate of my late fishing buddy. I can think of nothing he would have liked better than to award some deserving young anglers some tackle to help them get started in their passion for Bass fishing. I have had some ideas forwarded to me but we need to get it right before we start. I am looking for ideas to make it fair, reasonable, and to get the tackle in the right hands. Financial need is always a consideration but I want young people who will get out, develop a passion for the great outdoors, and use the tackle. Of course Glen will have to give his blessing to the project prior to starting. Cart7 suggested an essay contest with a section on personal information (sort of a resume) first so we can get to know the contestants followed on the same post with ideas to improve the sport of Bass fishing. Maybe conservation projects with pictures, or they can come up with their own ideas. This should be graded on originality, content, grammar, and spelling. It would be nice if we could get comments from the members on the essays (positive please)and even take a poll on which contestant is most deserving. I would not want the poll to be the deciding factor but a huge help with the decision. There should be multiple winners but don't know how many at this point. Please help with ideas for this project as we can get some nice tackle into the hands of deserving young anglers. If anyone would have some nice rods, reels, or tackle boxes for the project that might be nice also as all I got was tackle, just a thought. I will be looking for your input on how to administer the project. 8-) Quote
fishingfrenzy Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 What type of tackle do you have?? If its a bunch of softbaits, someone else should get them. If your tackle consists of Lucky Craft, Megabass, ect I might have to compete with Raul and other poeple that "think" they are still kids ;D Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 Youth is defined as 16 and under here. Just for the record. I would suggest leavingit vague. I agree with the resume type application, the grammar, spelling, etc but would leave the contest vague like...... "The member whose idea made the most difference or had the most positive impact" And then let them get creative. Subject should pertain to fishing, ecology, environmental managment, conservation or somthing based on the outdoors. Quote
fishingfrenzy Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 LBH its 16 right, not the other way around otherwise I'd have some pretty stiff competition. Quote

George Welcome Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I would think that you could usefully serve the youth of your area more than you could do good via the anonymous internet. Why not contact the Boy's/Girl's Club or some other youth organization in your area. You could also talk with the state Federation where you are at. I am sure that they could steer you towards some well deserving youth program. Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted June 18, 2006 Posted June 18, 2006 I think this IS home for Kevin as far as bass fishing goes, lol. wBasschaser is a pilot and I remember when we were corresponding alot before meeting up at Fork, He would be in Taiwan one night, Finland the next, Frankfurt, Madrid, etc etc etc,lol So yea, I think this may be His home port as far as chasing Bass go. And I think it should be said that it is a great and generous offer for you to give this stuff away. Thanks. Quote
Super User Hookemdown. Posted June 18, 2006 Super User Posted June 18, 2006 I'm glad to see someone trying to help out learning angler's like myself. As much as I and everyone else wants more tackle, you should in my opinion, give it to someone who needs equipment. There are some people who can't afford things like this, and it would mean the world to them. Good luck. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted June 18, 2006 Super User Posted June 18, 2006 I like things simple and I don't want to hear any sad stories. I wouldn't do any of that. If it were me I would have anyone under sixteen that is interested send me a PM with their BassResource name and NOTHING else. I would set a time frame of a couple of days and pick names randomly, matching one name with one lot of goodies. So, five to ten winners, notified by PM. At that point, WITH THE PERMISSION OF THEIR PARENTS, I would send the merchandise to the PARENT'S WORK ADDRESS. No hassels, no whining and NO LIABILITY. BTW, I'll take the original Lucky 13 if it's in perfect condition and you still have the package it came in, preferably unopened. Quote
