Crabcakes Posted June 16, 2006 Posted June 16, 2006 I have subscriptions to bassmaster and saltwater sportsman. I also get lots of other things in the mail from various magazines i never recall subscribing too. Saltwater sportsman is probably my favorite magazine as i can find all the bass fishing info i need right here on this site. Quote

Super User cart7t Posted June 17, 2006 Super User Posted June 17, 2006 Roger, My first issues of Bass master were given to me by a guy named John Therell whom fished the early tournament trail .I dated his daughter. This was about 68 or 69 I believe.Bill Dance was king and Bobby Murray was atwo time classic champ.I believe Spence Petros might have been a contributor to the mag at that time.Too bad many northern fishermen never read night crawler secrets a classic, and I believe one of his works.Im a southerner and Al and Ron Linder I give all the respect in the world as bass fishermen whether up North or down South.Ive been priveledged to share the boat with the great Billy Wetmoreland when I wasyoung(he was my best friends cousin)and hes kin to my mom.Still,I dont think he had much on Al and Ron though he was the best light tackle fisherman Ive ever seen. Uhh... I hope you kept those 68-69 Bassmasters, those rare, hard to find early issues are worth a fortune on Ebay! Been getting Bassmaster for 32 years. It's quality has gone downhill and most issues I don't even read. Fishin Facts was a great mag even though it was multi-species. Very good in-depth, technical articles. Same with In-Fisherman. Quote
tennsopher Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Most of my old magazines are long gone due to my moving to Florida from Tennessee twenty three years ago.I still have some in my shed somewhere from 80s early 90s.I just picked a book off my shelf when I saw your post out of curiosity. It is titled BASS A HANDBOOK OF STRATEGIES.It is copyrighted 1981 and autographed by the authors Bobby Murray,Al Lindner,Chet Meyers,Ron Lindner, and Billy Murray.Bass fishing may have changed somewhat, bit the fish and enjoyment of fishing have remained the same. Super User .ghoti. Posted June 17, 2006 Super User Posted June 17, 2006 #1 In-Fisherman, still the best, been a subscriber for at least 15 years, maybe longer #2 Inside Line, I just started a subscription ( three issues so far) and I'm impressed #3 Bassin I always get something from this one, been getting it for 7 or 8 years #4 Bassmaster I re-subscribed last year after a 5 or 6 year hiatus, and I will not be renewing. tuxdaddy Posted June 17, 2006 Posted June 17, 2006 Not sure if fishing facts is still around, but it was one of my favs.. They were the ones who broke it down to me on working a worm, in a technique that's not mentioned too much these days... Also, it wasn't just written by big names, but just ordinary folk, who wanted to share their ideas and secrets.. In fisherman is also on my list as well as bassin, and field and stream... I go with whatever catches my eye and interest, when cruising the mags at whatever store I'm in...lol Besides my lady can always find me when we go shopping(mags, or sporting goods ) lol... Quote

Siebert Outdoors Posted June 19, 2006 Posted June 19, 2006 None, I read these forums and ask questions. besides that its all water time. The reasoning behind it is honest answers and most are unbiased. You get alot less advertising and marketing schemes. Just my opinion though. Quote
